I’ve been around for a while but I think not all of you may know me just yet. I know for a fact that some people who follow this site already do but for the rest, I’ve done some more intimate sharing below:
I prefer to be by myself when it comes to most things. I like being alone with my thoughts. I find other people often act as a distraction to me and impact my enjoyment of things.
I have been a shy person most of my life but this has been wearing away over the last few years. I was concerning myself too much with how I would be perceived by others but now this does not matter as much to me. I go out in public a lot more than I used to. I go to the movies (most of the movies I’ve seen this year were by myself), I walk around in shopping malls, I go to restaurants (only fast-food so far because I still think going to actual restaurants by myself is weird and “loner-y”).
What I like about going to movies by myself is that I can go whenever I want. I don’t have to depend on others. Whenever I’m free, I could just get up and go. Luckily for me, there are plenty of theaters within an hour of where I live to choose from. Most of these theaters are relatively the same so the one I choose depends on when a movie I want to see is being shown.
Sometimes features like IMAX, 3D, etc are sacrificed for the sake of practicality. Most of the time these things don’t really matter or add to the overall movie experience. I would say the last movie I’ve seen where 3D actually made the movie better was Gravity. Another benefit of going to the movies by myself is that I can see whatever movie I want. I don’t have to worry about other people’s opinions which are sometimes not good. If something looks good to me, I’ll eventually see it.
It doesn’t matter what kind of movie it is, action, comedy, drama, animated, family, romance, etc. You should have seen the looks I got when this year, I saw Magic Mike XXL, and Fifty Shades of Gray. The glances I got from the “ticket rippers” and the people walking by me to find their seat(s) were definitely interesting to say the least.
So with that, now I am not as concerned with the feelings of others as I used to be.
With the coming year, things for me do not look to change but I have been wrong about these before. With my friends and I growing older, we are beginning to drift apart with us having our own lives and responsibilities. I am still confident of us reuniting on occasion for some of the year’s “big movies” as most groups of friends do and the experience will be better because of it. 2016 looks to provide these experiences and also the smaller, more intimate experiencing which I’ve enjoyed so far seeing movies by myself. It has definitely given me a newer perspective in adulthood as I have benefited by the freedom of choice. I hope to continue with this for now and this distant future.
