Café Society
When it comes to Woody Allen movies, I couldn’t think of anyone better to be in it than Jesse Eisenberg. His eccentricities and his own neuroticism are just perfect for these kinds of films. My dream is now a reality in Allen’s new film, Café Society. Here he plays Bobby, a young man who arrives in Hollywood during the 1930s hoping to work in the film industry. There, he falls in love, and finds himself swept up in the vibrant café society that defined the spirit of the age. So far the film seems to be full of the smart and witty dialogue that we know and love and I have every faith that the cast here can handle it. What surprised me was the casting of Kristen Stewart who is someone I would not normally associate with this type of movie. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see how it all pans out. Nerve
This definitely did not go the way I had imagined and I’m not sure yet if that is necessarily a good or bad thing. You know when a trailer leads you in one direction and then it suddenly begins to go in another. I kind of felt this here. This might be a spoiler if you haven’t watched the trailer below yet but I originally thought that this was going to be some romantic movie with this whole “nerve” game as a gimmick which led to them being together but it took a darker turn rather quickly. I could have stood behind the first half but I’m on the fence about the second half. Emma Roberts and Dave Franco are in it so I guess it could be interesting? Nerve releases July 27th, 2016.
Assassin’s Creed
This is a big one (Note to self: Update most anticipated films of 2016 list). I just want to get this out of the way, I do not like the song in the trailer (now I can continue). I admit that I forgot about this one (feel free to shame me for doing so because I kind of deserve it). I’ve always found the Assassin’s Creed series to be cool but I never really got into it. When I heard that they were making a film of it with Michael Fassbender, I thought that it could work. After watching the trailer, my opinion remains unchanged. From what I’ve seen so far, he seems very capable. I can’t really speak to the story here since I am only vaguely familiar with the series but the trailer didn’t really tell me anything as to where it would go. Maybe that’s a good thing? I don’t know. Either way, we’ll find out when Assassin’s Creed releases December 21st, 2016.
