We are getting even closer to the flashforward although it’s still unclear how all the subplots will converge. Things are finally starting to look up for these characters so of course they all have to be knocked down again.
Last episode ended with Isaac’s ex-wife Jacqueline visiting Annalise. She was worried about Isaac, worried that Annalise’s situation was triggering him and causing him to use drugs again. She offered to be Annalise’s new therapist or find someone else for her. Meanwhile Annalise informs Isaac that he will no longer be her therapist as she believed that they were getting too close and that he would end up like Sam. Isaac wanted to fix this but eventually let her go.
Now it was time to have Annalise’s class action lawsuit certified. To do so, she had to take on the Attorney General of Pennsylvania (Oded Fehr). He tried to stall the proceedings and attacked her credibility. In court, he even presented a stage photo of Annalise with a bottle of alcohol, claiming that she still had a drinking problem. She simply was photographed while picking up a bottle from the hood of her car and placing it in the garbage but it didn’t matter.
Annalise then asked Denver for help in taking down his opponent for AG and he agreed, giving her an employee to put on the stand to lie about taking the staged photo. Once the AG’s plan backfired, Bonnie offered to help bring Annalise down. In her hotel room, she heard a strange noise and when she investigated, she found a bottle of vodka on her counter. She decided to go to Nate’s house where he questioned her motives and what they were doing to her.
Bonnie’s plan was to subpoena Isaac to challenge her mental fitness to stand trial but this plan backfired as well. After the proceedings, the judge ruled in favor of Annalise meaning that her class action lawsuit had been certified. While speaking to the press, Annalise gave the spotlight to Connor.
After Asher stumbled onto their plan, Michaela wanted to make sure he didn’t tell anyone and it appeared that he hadn’t. She and Laurel confronted him about it and he no longer wanted there to be secrets. He wanted them to tell Frank about it. Frank thought it was a joke and stupid. He wanted it to stop. Asher questioned Michaela’s loyalty but she claimed that she was still loyal to him.
At Caplan & Gold, Simon confided to Oliver that his immigration status was in jeopardy. Michaela told Oliver what happened earlier and did not want him to tell Connor as it would ruin his happiness. Tegan wanted Michaela to plan an office party to celebrate Antares going public. After a plea from Laurel, Frank was on board with the plan but Asher still wasn’t. They could access to server room during the party, however, Michaela still did not want to involve Tegan.
To try and keep Connor from everything, Oliver wanted the two of them to have an unplugged evening together. Asher and Michaela had another fight about putting Laurel ahead of him which led him to question their relationship. Despite how he felt about her, Asher was on board with the plan. Oliver had a plan to frame Simon for stealing Tegan’s keycard to access the server room.
Laurel took Frank’s DNA for a paternity test. Michaela poured ketchup on her expensive wedding dress to prove her loyalty to Asher. Oliver came home to Connor’s fort. Annalise visited Isaac to confront him about his testimony. He told her that he was telling the truth about her and that losing the hearing would cause her to relapse. He wanted to know why she was doing this and she believed it was because she hurt people. They both got emotional when she asked if she triggered him. He wanted to know who told her and Annalise told him that it was Jacqueline. When Connor proposed to Oliver, Oliver got emotional and told him the truth about what was happening.
This led to the flashforward which is not 48 hours later where we are given another piece with someone in critical condition undergoing surgery but eventually flatlines. Who can it be?
Overall, this was another great episode where Annalise’s lawsuit is full steam ahead, Connor was happy, and the team came together. How will Oliver’s news affect Connor’s happiness and is he the one who dies? We know that Isaac is still around so what role will he serve if not as Annalise’s therapist. What will happen at the office party? We are getting closer to the truth which shouldn’t be too much longer as we approach mid season.
Score: 9/10
