Update
Yeah, I changed it again. The P2 theme had some cool features involving the different post types but all of these counted as actual blog posts which I found to be a little intrusive notification-wise. I guess if I had more patience, I could have figured out a way around that. But I don’t have any patience so I just went ahead and changed it to what you see now. I thought this looked pretty cool too.

Original Post Below

For the last little while I’ve been thinking to myself that it is time for a change, a makeover of sorts. Not for me of course but for my website. I think that I have gotten better at this whole “blogging” and “reviewing” thing and now I want something that could better reflect that. I’ve written a lot of movie reviews so far and I’ve also dabbled into other things that I am interested in such as television and video games. I will admit not as much as I would like but it’s a start. I would like it to be a little more obvious that I do these things as well. There are limitations, however, as to what I can actually do considering that I am doing this with only a a free wordpress.com blog and a domain name that I payed for. I wish I could afford to potentially move up to a more premium account but I cannot quite do this at the moment because of my current living arrangements and the current job that I am so desperately trying to get out of. Maybe one day when the site becomes more successful viewer-wise and visitor-wise, I will be able to make money off of advertising and such and potentially get screener copies of films to review (it has happened once to me already) or get paid to review movies on behalf of film studios or various publications. This all seems very promising but I am well aware that these things take time and I am willing to be patient with it as this is what I would like to do as it makes me the most happy. Wow, I kind of rambled on for a little while there. Now on to the whole makeover part which I was trying to make this about.

These are the options I was considering for my site’s makeover (by that I mean that I am not quite ready to leave wordpress yet but I was just thinking of changing the theme):

Gateway was my current theme

gateway-customizer

It was nice and it did its job. It was easy to post things and look things up. I did have a habit of not inserting too many read more lines in my posts making my homepage very long and difficult to read. I also liked posting feature images for my posts which were mostly memes that were fund to find and/or make. I just felt that a lot of people were just going to my homepage and did not go further. I just want to have people stay a little longer.

So I did some research of WordPress movie review themes and I came across these:

I thought they kind of looked cool but I thought they were a little too much for what I was trying to do with my site.

After doing some more research and learning that I couldn’t live blog with my wordpress.com blog (Why????), I came across a theme called P2 Classic (below).

This is its description from its website:

P2 is a theme for WordPress that transforms a mild-mannered blog into a super-blog with features like inline comments on the homepage, a posting form right on the homepage, inline editing of posts and comments, real-time updates so new posts and comments come in without reloading, and much more. P2 makes a great communication tool for your business or organization.

After seeing that, I thought it looked pretty cool and I think easier to use and more practical so I decided to choose it. I really hope it works out.
