10 Movies to Watch This Halloween

I previously posted a list of movies to watch on Halloween but now I have made one on my own.

1. The Exorcist

This film is a classic. The story of an innocent little girl possessed by a demon has been captivating audiences since its initial release in 1973. It’s hard to forget her face, her unnatural body positions, and everyone should at least remember the spinning head scene.

2. Halloween

The idea of a masked psychopath hunting down stupid teenagers may seem common now but that was not the case in 1978. This movie features Jamie Lee Curtis as a teen who is having a bad Halloween when her brother escapes from an insane asylum. The music in this will definitely give you the creeps.

3. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The film may have a reputation of being a gore-best but it is much more than that as it has a psychological component as well. This 1974 movie was actually banned in several countries because of its goriness but is now available to all. If you can get over the violence, there’s definitely some entertainment to be had. The story is about a group of teenagers driving across America who pick up a hitchhiker who was not exactly what they expected.

4. It Follows (review)

5. The Babadook (review)

6. Poltergeist

You might not think that some faceless evil could be scary but that fact just adds to it. The way things just start to come alive might make you start to suspect the things in your own household. The franchise is said to be cursed due to the amount of real deaths which occurred during the filming of the films.

7. A Nightmare on Elm Street

Serial killer Freddy Krueger is stalking teenagers and bringing terror in one Midwestern neighborhood who thought they were safe in their beds. This movie just did not make you want to go back to bed because you didn’t know if a monster would come back for you while you sleep.

8. It

So this is probably why most people are afraid of clowns. This one lures children away from safety and then they are never to be seen again. This monster preys on the fears of its victims. This film also features a classic scene of a dancing clown luring a child to a sewer brain promising him gifts and treats.

9. The Blair Witch Project

Back when it was released in 1999, people were flocking to the theater just to see what it was all about. The director realized that showing the main characters’ fear is more effective than anything else he could have possibly put on screen. It is definitely easy to get scared by what the characters are seeing and experiencing. Is it really real? Who knows?

10. The Shining

Based on the Stephen King novel, this 1980 film revolves around Jack Nicholson’s Jack Torrance. His character turns crazy and then goes on a murderous rampage chasing after his family though a haunted hotel. The visuals themselves may not be scary but what was scary was seeing Jack’s slow descent into madness. Everyone surely knows the image of Nicholson’s face poking through a hole in a door.
