Game of Thrones is a big TV show (I shouldn’t have to tell you that). Season 6 is coming up real soon and I (and possibly others) couldn’t be more excited. So far we don’t know too much about this upcoming season other than some pictures from the set (which could be found just about everywhere) and some vague teasers which I’ve talked about here. Now we have a little more info here thanks to a behind the scenes video which was released today. This new mini documentary entitled “The Best Seat in the House” where camera operators describe the challenges and rewards of working with ever-changing directors, special effects and terrain. I found it very fascinating as we got a glimpse of what it is like to work on a program of this scale. I have shared this 5 minute video below.
Because of the Oscars last night, I didn’t have time to talk about The Independent Spirit Awards which were last Saturday Night. For those who don’t know, The Independent Spirit Awards are an awards ceremony dedicated mostly to independent films. This year, they were hosted by Kate McKinnon of Saturday Night Live (whom I adore) and Kumail Nanjiani of Silicon Valley (whom I also adore). This post is not about the awards themselves, however, they are about a series of parody videos they made during the ceremony, one of Carol and the other for Room. I thought they were hilarious and I have shared both of them below for you to enjoy.
The best reviewed movie on my site for the month of February is:
Here are the nominations and the winners of the 88th Academy Awards along with my prediction results:
Time for the 36th Golden Raspberry Awards (or Razzies). For those who don’t know what the Razzie awards are, there another awards show which take place around the Academy Awards (or Oscars) with the biggest difference being that instead of celebrating the best films of the year, it focuses on the worst films of the year. This is an award which films and filmmakers don’t want to win. Below are the nominations as well as my predictions. I’ve linked movies which I’ve seen to their respective reviews. I will admit that I haven’t seen as many as these movies as I have all the other nominated movies. I will update my predictions if I see more movies before the awards ceremony.
This one was kind of interesting since it features Julianne Moore with a French accent (spoiler alert). Maggie (Greta Gerwig) wants to have a baby on her own but things don’t go as planned when she falls in love with a man named John (Ethan Hawke) who is married to his volatile wife Georgette (Moore). When she begins to fall out of love with John, she tries to help John and Georgette get back together. This one looks like one of those smart kind of funny movies with good writing and interesting characters. A supporting cast featuring Bill Hader and Maya Rudolph doesn’t hurt either. Maggie’s Plan releases May 20th, 2016.
One thing I’ve always thought was lacking was movies about math. The only ones I can think of right now are A Beautiful Mind and Good Will Hunting. Here’s another one in The Man Who Knew Infinity. Indian mathematical prodigy Srinivasa Ramanujan (Dev Patel) earns admission to Cambridge University during WWI, becoming a pioneer in mathematical theories under the guidance of his professor, G.H. Hardy (Jeremy Irons). The two inevitably have a strong relationship where they end up doing great things (educated guess here). I’ve always liked Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons so I’m willing to give this a try. Stephen Fry and Toby Jones are also in this. The Man Who Knew Infinity releases April 8th, 2016.
Maybe you haven’t seen certain movies which came out last year, or you did and need to get caught up with some, or maybe you just don’t care about any of them. If any of those apply then this video may be for you. These two guys in 1 take, are able to spoil the plots of 50 movies in 4 minutes including this year’s Best Picture Oscar nominees. Notice a pattern when it comes to certain movies. Have you seen them all? I’ve probably seen around 45-46 of the 50 movies. Enjoy!
Penny Dreadful is a great show that I’ve talked about once before here. I posted a few season 3 teasers before but now we got a whole trailer to enjoy. This was released a few days ago but I didn’t get to see it until now. In this trailer, we get to see our characters in more action as they appear to be in dicey situations. We also get a glimpse of their dark sides. This was a pretty dark show already so it’s hard for me to imagine it getting even darker. I’ve always thought they were great at being dark so I’m excited to see where they take it. Season 3 of Penny Dreadful premieres Sunday May 1st at 10pm on Showtime in the US and the Movie Network in Canada.
