I guess the main reason I enjoyed The Force Awakens was how it reminded me of the original film trilogy, more so than the prequel trilogy. The main difference between those and The Force Awakens is that the latter actually had great characters and a story where the prequels had some bad acting and tried to distract from the lack of story with mediocre special effects. While I said that The Force Awakens reminded me of the original trilogy as there were some similarities that I noticed but I didn’t realize (I’m sure some people did) how many there actually were.
