Sing
If you would like to read my thoughts on the first trailer, click here. There is just something about Matthew McConaughey as a koala bear that amuses me. Here he plays Buster Moon, an owner of a struggling theater who decides to have a singing competition in order to try and save his theater. This is obviously an animated movie but Illumination Entertainment, the studio responsible for the Despicable Me movies, is behind this so it is definitely in good hands. With a voice cast featuring Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, and Seth MacFarlane, this looks to be another good one. How can you say no to cute singing animals? Sing releases December 21st, 2016.
Table 19
This one is about an ex-maid of honor Eloise (Anna Kendrick) who was recently relieved of her duties after being unceremoniously dumped by the best man (Wyatt Russell) via text, decides to attend the wedding anyway only to find herself seated with 5 “random” guests at the dreaded Table 19. This looks like it can be funny and features Kendrick in a familiar type role. The supporting cast looks great here too featuring Lisa Kudrow, June Squibb, Tony Revolori, and Craig Robinson. What would seem like a pretty simple plot looks to be a lot deeper. Table 19 looks to be one of the first great movies of 2017 and releases on January 20th.
Blood Father

Gibson hasn’t really done much recently and has had quite a rough time over the last millennium but I am definitely very excited to see him again here. Maybe its because of nostalgia from the Lethal Weapon movies and such but I just love seeing him in action movies. I don’t know whether he still has it or not but I am willing to watch this and find out. And there’s also something about that beard that just makes it better. Blood Father releases August 25th, 2016.
Goat
Well that escalated quickly. This one is about a boy named Brad (Ben Schnetzer) who enrolls into college with his brother Brett (Nick Jonas) and pledges the same fraternity. What happens there, in the name of “brotherhood” tests the boy and his loyalty to his brother in brutal ways. What they do seems a little much and makes me question whether or not this actually happens. Maybe it really does or maybe it really doesn’t but what I know is that I’d rather not be any part of it. This was surprisingly dark too, kind of a darker Everybody Wants Some. Goat releases September 23rd, 2016.
