A Monster Calls

If you would like to read my thoughts on the first trailer, click here. A misunderstood kid named Connor (Lewis MacDougall) finds an escape from his less than ideal life by drawing. One day, one of his creations suddenly comes to life in a rather large monster (Liam Neeson). Of course he and the monster become great friends as he teaches Connor about life and about himself. This story has, more or less, been told several times but this one looks interesting not only because of Neeson and/or Sigourney Weaver’s “british” accent but it looks like a beautiful movie as well. The Hollars

After watching the trailer, I was surprised to learn that John Krasinski directed this movie. I never imagined him like that. This one is about a man named John (Krasinski) who returns to his small hometown after learning that his mother named Sally (Margo Martindale) has fallen ill and is about to undergo surgery. This definitely looks like a fun, little dramedy with a great cast with great chemistry. Not only does it include Krasinski and Martindale but also features Anna Kendrick, Charlie Day, and Sharlto Copley who doesn’t have a South African accent here. I’m curious to see how it all turns out. The Hollars releases August 26th, 2016

Rules Don’t Apply

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Warren Beatty movie so that’s a big reason why I’m going to see this one. I liked Hail, Caesar! which came out earlier this year but I was still a little disappointed as I thought it would be more of a parody of old Hollywood. What makes me even more excited about this one is that it is more like what Hail, Caesar! should have been, at least so far. This one looks smart and funny thanks to a script written by Beatty and also has a great cast featuring Beatty as Howard Hughes who looks amazing and the best part of Hail, Caesar, Alden Ehrenreich. Rules Don’t Apply releases November 11th, 2016

Sharknado 4: The Fourth Awakens

Here it is again. Since its inception, the Sharknado series has been very divisive. Either people really love it or really hate it. I really love it. The thing I love the most is how self-aware it is. It’s not trying to be a masterpiece and it definitely isn’t. It’s just amazingly bad and that’s why it’s so good. The acting isn’t great, the story doesn’t make sense, and the special effects are bad and these just all add to its prestige. We really only have ourselves to blame because since we keep watching them, they’ll keep making them. Sharknado 4 will air on Sunday, July 31st at 8pm on SyFy.

Boo! A Madea Halloween

I can’t say that I’ve had the pleasure of watching any of Tyler Perry’s Madea movies but I am familiar with the character. I don’t know what the other movies were like but I would imagine that this would be the best setting for Madea. The contrast between her personality and the horror setting created some very funny situations. Her older friends had some funny situations as well. I guess there’s kind of a story here but I have a feeling that everyone will be more focused on Madea and her various hijinks. I also think that we may have seen all of the movie’s best moments in the trailer. For those who still want to see the movie, it releases October 21st, 2016.
