Operation Chromite

There’s something about Liam Neeson and a position of authority that just feels right. Here he plays General Douglas MacArthur who is leading a squad of soldiers fight in the Korean War’s crucial Battle of Incheon. There’s something interesting about seeing Neeson in a primarily Korean movie surrounded by mostly Korean actors. Fascination aside, I know absolutely nothing about the movie’s story so it will definitely be nice to see how it’s depicted by Korean filmmakers and I will get to learn something new here. Operation Chromite releases August 12th, 2016.

Operation Avalanche

Time for another operation. Everyone knows about the famous moon landing and everyone also knows about all the conspiracy theories surrounding it. This movie explores the latter as two CIA agents go undercover at NASA to investigate a possible Russian mole. But when they end up uncovering a major government cover-up involving the infamous Apollo mission, they embark on a new mission that puts their own lives at risk. Stars Matt Johnson and Josh Boles wrote the film with Johnson also directing. I’m a fan of conspiracy theories but let’s hope it’s not too out there. Operation Avalanche releases September 16th, 2016.

Hands of Stone

If you would like to read my thoughts on the first trailer, click here. We’ve had a lot of boxing movies as of late and here’s another one. Any excuse to see De Niro again I guess. The story here is of the legendary Roberto Duran (Edgar Ramirez) and his equally legendary trainer Ray Arcel (De Niro). This relationship was fun to watch as I could see some chemistry there. Another main drawing point will be singer Usher Raymond who is playing one of Duran’s opponents, Sugar Ray Leonard. Some of the boxing scenes look great too. Hands of Stone releases August 26th, 2016.

A Tale of Love and Darkness

This is the directorial debut of Natalie Portman in a movie which she also wrote. The story is about Amos Oz, a writer, journalist, and advocate of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. What is very interesting about this one is that it is all in Hebrew so that means Portman speaking Hebrew the whole movie. Again, this another film about someone who I’ve never heard before. Portman looks great here and I am definitely willing to read here if I have to. Whether people will have patience with this remains to be seen. Spaceman

Well it at least can’t be as bad as Misconduct. Do you know what those two movies have in common? Josh Duhamel that is. He wasn’t the best in Misconduct but I’m sure he’ll be better here. I think the best way to describe this is Everybody Wants Some if we actually got to see them play baseball. This movie is about former MLB pitcher Bill ‘Spaceman’ Lee (Duhamel) following his release by the Montreal Expos. I wouldn’t quite call this a comeback story but Lee is just making the best out of his situation. This looks like it could be fun and Duhamel is actually good here. Spaceman releases August 19th, 2016.
