Super Bowl LI Commerical Preview

Keith NoakesJanuary 29, 20173057 min

We are now just a week away from this year’s football championship, known as The Super Bowl. The 51st edition (or LI if you care about Roman numerals) will be between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons from the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. So why I am I even talking about sports, let alone football? Why the commercials of course!

While football fans will be watching the game to see these two great teams play (you can put me in that group), some will be watching for the commercials. Based on the high viewership and the wide viewer demographics, advertisers like to use this time as a means of building awareness among this wide audience, while also trying to generate attention around the ads themselves so they may receive additional exposure. In order to get you ready for the game and/or the commercials, I’ve shared some with you below:

Sexy Mr. Clean

Everybody’s heard of Mr. Clean but you’ve never seen him like this. Who doesn’t love a man who cleans? Everything has pretty much been sexualized so why not cleaning and Mr. Clean. I don’t quite see it. He’s no Brawny guy.

Victoria’s Secret

I’ll just say right now, it’s not what you’re probably thinking. It wouldn’t exactly be practical to play in lingerie anyway. You can score more apparently but I don’t think they’re talking about football anymore.

Who is JohnMalkovich.com?

There are not too many funnier things than John Malkovich having an identity crisis while trying to figure out why JohnMalkovich.com is already taken. There is even a movie about him, or was it people inside him being him?

Wix.com Big Game First Spot with Jason Statham and Gal Gadot

Making a website on wix.com is so easy, you can do it while Jason Statham and Gal Gadot beat up a bunch of people in a bistro. Maybe he should pay attention to what’s going on in his own bistro, probably not the best management style.

Easy Driver

Commercials like these don’t come every day, especially when it is directed by the Coen Brothers and starring Peter Fonda, the original Easy Rider. I hate that the title mentions Fonda as it kind of ruined the surprise. It’s okay to have your motorcycle blocked by a Mercedes when it is Peter Fonda driving.

Humpty Fall

You can do your taxes anywhere with Turbotax, even when you happen to be an egg on a wall. It’s stupid in a cute kind of way.

Skittles: “Romance”

Instead of throwing rocks at your girlfriend’s window, why not throw Skittles? This guy has a great throw as they always landed in people’s mouths. After a while, he has to realize that Katie won’t answer because she’s more interested in the Skittles. She’s not the only one, however, as you’ll see.

Make #SMUNDAY a National Holiday 2017

Now this is something I can stand behind, if I was American. Super Bowl Sunday is one of the greatest days of the year but is followed by a measly Monday. The good people at Heinz are organizing a campaign to make the following Monday a national holiday. Watch the above video for more details.

Random GoDaddy Commercials

They seem random when you watch them because they are teasers but they will surely make sense when the whole commercial will premiere during the big game. There’s a sneezing panda, a guy with a horse head riding a hula chair, a guy looking at dresses, and a bunch of cats riding Roombas.

These are just some that you can expect but there will be a whole lot more. Enjoy the game!
