It only took 10 episodes but now we’re getting somewhere. We are finally seeing the start of the downfall in the past while nearing a conclusion in the present.

The idea of Alex and Ryan running parallel missions wasn’t going to last forever with the FBI asking Ryan to eliminate Alex. She was not going to take this lightly as she was still determined to take down the AIC on her own. This episode tested their relationship as they competed against each other to eliminate the other from the farm. Harry, seeing that his work with Alex wasn’t going anywhere, decides to play Alex and Ryan against each other but they ultimately won out, not liking what the mission had made them become.

This week’s lesson was on betrayal where the recruits needed to get the Venezuelan Consul named Gabriel Carrera (Javier Muñoz) to turn on his country. To do so, they needed leverage either from his daughter or his husband. The recruits all worked together in groups and Alex and Ryan were on different groups. Because of their competing, they tried to outdo each other with Alex coming out on top or so it seemed. Alex tried to get Ryan arrested at the Venezuelan consulate and get him off the farm but Alex reconsidered, not liking who they’ve become.

The other side of the mission was Leon and Dayanna who were watching Carrera’s daughter. Leon and Dayanna have done some dark things in the past and kidnapping a girl wasn’t the worst thing they’ve done but there was just something about the situation that brought back memories within Dayanna of being taken as a child that made her uneasy with their task. Leon rightfully called her out on this as she would often fluctuate and that she didn’t have the right to pick and choose what she was okay with.

Also with Leon, cracks began to form within his relationship with Jane/Shelby in the last episode, leading him to reevaluate his relationship. He decided to do some digging while Shelby was in the shower and found evidence that would prove that she wasn’t who she said she was. He also waited at her house until she left and went in to confront Nimah about what they were really doing. He learned the truth and actually volunteered to work with them but not through Jane (he didn’t know her real name).

Back to the present, the last episode ended with Miranda and Alex going on a car ride and this episode picked up from there. Someone called Miranda, warning about the group and lines had to be crossed in order to do it. They went to the crisis zone to try and save the hostages. Nimah waited for them and revealed that Ryan had nothing to do with it and that she was there on an undercover mission from Miranda that went further than she expected (obviously). Suffice it to say that she was not happy with Miranda. Miranda was more interested in getting the drives from Lydia than rescuing the hostages. Alex and Nimah were able to subdue Miranda so that Alex can go in and rescue the hostages.

Now President Claire Haas also showed up. She wasn’t exactly comfortable with being the president. She needed Shelby’s help to call of the air strike. Since she was partly responsible for creating the AIC, she needed Shelby to disavow here report so it wouldn’t undermine her decision to call off the strike. She wanted to look strong for everyone around her but calling it off would look like she was helping them. Claire talked about how hard it was to be a woman but Shelby managed to convince her that she can overcome whatever happened so she called off the strike.

The episode ended with a lot of answers. Confronted by their actions in the consulate, Ryan told Owen that he though Alex was jealous that he recruited him and Alex, she was cut out of the loop and she wanted back in, she thought he burned her so he tried to get her out of the way so she wouldn’t ruin what they had. Owen seemed unfazed by it. He also confronted Alex about it which surprised her since she thought he was responsible. He denied any part in the AIC and demanded that she tell him what she knew. Lydia assembled all the AIC recruits in a barn where she told Ryan that Alex wasn’t part of the group and gave a speech about how they were the real CIA.

Overall, this was a great episode which answered a lot of questions about the AIC and Miranda’s involvement but there is still plenty more to discover, offering new angles to explore.

Score: 8.5/10
