Synopsis: While searching for a missing Alexandrian, Rick and his group encounter a mysterious collective, its inhabitants unlike any they have come across. (IMDB)

Writer: Channing Powell

Director: Jeffrey January

Rating: TV-MA

Running Time: 52mins

The Hilltop and the Kingdom were not on board for Rick’s plan but we all know that’s not going to last forever. The tables started to turn, at least as far as the Kingdom was concerned.

The episode started off with another tense exchange between the Saviors and the Kingdom. That same Saviour named Jared (Joshua Mikel) keeps stirring thing up with Richard and this time was the last straw for Ezekiel and Richard. Morgan also lost his stick. Richard did not take it lying down, however, as he had a plan to rile up some of the Saviors with Daryl to try and convince Ezekiel to change his mind. It didn’t exactly go according to plan when Richard started talking about some female loner that kind of sounded like Carol. This flipped a switch within Daryl so nothing else mattered but getting to her.

Of course it led to the best part of the episode which was the reunion of Daryl and Carol. It was very satisfying to see them together again and they did not miss a beat. Carol told him how she just wanted to be left alone because she couldn’t live that life anymore and didn’t want to lose anybody. She wanted to hold on to who she was since she was scared of who’d she become. She told him that Ezekiel was doing right by her so he was okay with Ezekiel.

Daryl kind of understood so he lied to her when she asked about what happened between them and the Saviors. He said everyone made it which obviously didn’t happen. He didn’t tell her seeing that the truth would have probably set her over the edge and turn her back to who she was. She’ll probably learn the truth eventually considering it wouldn’t make much sense to keep her on the sidelines. Morgan was glad he didn’t tell her the truth.

Daryl was fed up with the Kingdom so before he left, he wanted Morgan to try and convince Ezekiel to change his mind but he still did not want to get involved and that it can’t be him. Daryl wanted him to wake up because whatever he was still holding onto was gone (then he pet the obvious CGI tiger).

To address the end of the previous episode, Rick and the gang met a mysterious group of people led by a woman named Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh). We didn’t really learn much about them other than they seemed to live in a dump/junkyard. Their affiliation to the boat was that they happened to be watching it until someone would come along and retrieve its supplies. Rick and Aaron did and that was why they were interested in them, enough for a spy to go to Alexandria and kidnap Gabriel which was why he left at the beginning of the previous episode. He was jumped when they were looking for the supplies from the boat so they just took him and the rest of the supplies. Gabriel saw Rick’s smile from the last episode and Rick told him it was because he was confident that he was going to get them on their side.

This was a pretty lame resolution to say the least and this group was not that much better. They were boring to say the least and made no sense, seeming to just utter gibberish. Rick obviously tried to recruit them but it didn’t work. They believed that Rick and the others’ lives belonged to them and they had to get them stuff to pay them back. Unfortunately, they didn’t have much to give since the Saviors already took care of that. Rick tried to convince them that the Saviors were bad, appealing to their wanting of stuff which was what the Saviors had with help of Gabriel as his hype man.

They were intrigued but Rick still had to prove himself for whatever reason so they had him take on some spiky walker (just see it for yourself). He undoubtedly prevailed so they were willing to make a deal. They wanted half the stuff from the Saviors but Rick negotiated it down to a third since there’d be other parties involved. The other condition was that Rick and the gang would have to get them lots of guns. I wonder where those would be? The answer is Oceanside so they’ll eventually have to go there to get the guns.

Overall, this was a lackluster episode where we were introduced to a new boring group of garbage Saviors but what redeemed it slightly was the Carol and Daryl reunion. I just hope they move on to more exciting stuff in future episodes.

Score: 7/10
