The Flash Season 3 Episode 15: The Wrath of Savitar Review

I don’t know if the creators of The Flash are intentionally making their characters stupid, but for some reason, Barry and the rest of the gang are incapable of learning from their past mistakes. How many times in the past has someone from Team flash withheld important information and its come back to hurt someone? If you’re not sure, it’s too many times to count. And to be clear, no, this kind of thing doesn’t create suspense or add to the story. All it is is lazy and forced drama. So, when will they learn…?

,Apparently not this week. “The Wrath of Savitar”started out nice when Barry and Iris shared the news of their engagement with the rest of the team. Things quickly went awry, however, when Wally had Cisco vibe him into the future and he noticed that Iris wasn’t wearing an engagement ring at the time of her murder. As it turns out, Barry only proposed to Iris to try and change the future. Iris was understandably upset because of course Barry didn’t tell her about his alternative motivations.

Wally wasn’t perfect this week either. In fact, he was banished from STAR Labs by Barry. For what? Withholding important information of course! This week we found out that Wally has been seeing visions of Savitar and failed to initially tell anyone. Team Flash was upset because they were concerned Savitar could be spying on them. I get why Barry would be upset with him, but all of this “drama”feels very contrived and unnecessary. The show takes several weeks off from the Savitar story and then comes back acting like it’s the end of the world. Again, it’s just too forced for my liking.

In the end, though, it didn’t really matter because Wally put himself in harm’s way. Savitar, who has been trapped in the Speed Force, escaped, and Wally was subsequently sucked into it. The last few episodes of the season should now be pretty interesting. We have Wally stuck in the Speed Force, Savitar on the loose, and the fate of Iris still in question.

In general, though, this week’s episode of The Flash wasn’t very good because it lacked any excitement. The weekly quibbles amongst Team Flash have grown stale and another speedster villain just doesn’t appeal to me anymore. Ironically, though, the biggest and most exciting mystery of the season is the identity of Savitar. Is it Julian, Wally, HR, or someone else? This week we learned that Savitar’s hatred for Barry is very personal which makes things even better. I’ve seen several theories floating around but there’s still no certainty. I just hope The Flash can get out of this slump and finish the season strong.
