Song to Song – A Shallow and Incoherent Waste of Time

The film boasts an impressive cast with Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, and Natalie Portman but writer/director Terrence Malick is an acquired taste as far as I know as I haven’t seen any of his films before this one (add it to my growing list of cinematic crimes) and now I understand why.

Battle of the Sexes Official Trailer

When I imagined the pairing of Emma Stone and Steve Carell, this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind but from the trailers, it looks like it can work. Here they play a pair of real-life tennis players named Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, as they gear up towards their infamous Battle of the Sexes, one of the biggest tennis matches in history. Stone and Carell both bring plenty of personality to the proceedings and I can’t wait to see them clash. The movie is also in the very capable hands of the directors of Little Miss Sunshine, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, so there should be little to worry about as Battle of the Sexes releases September 22nd, 2017.
