Best and Worst Films of 2018

You’ve seen other writers make their picks but it’s my turn so now, here are my personal picks for the top 10 best and worst films of 2018 (along with some honorable/dishonorable mentions). Stay tuned for more picks from our other writers.

Best Films of 2018

Like every year before it, 2018 was filled with fantastic movies spanning all types of genres. Marvel released their two biggest films to date in Black Panther and Infinity War, and possibly one of the best superhero movies of all time in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. Tom Cruise broke his ankle and almost killed himself just for our entertainment, and comedian Bo Burnham released one of the most tender and real films dissecting Gen-Z culture in Eighth Grade. A lot of my Top Ten films snuck in very recently, as I’ve been trying to catch up during the holidays. Movies that I still have to see that have the potential to make my top 10 are Burning, Cold War, Shoplifters, The Favorite, First Man, and If Beale Street Could Talk.

Honorable Mentions: Blockers, Crazy Rich Asians, Annihilation

10. Avengers: Infinity War

9. Shirkers

8. Eighth Grade

7. Searching

6. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

5. Solo: A Star Wars Story

4. Roma

3. Widows

2. Paddington 2

1. Mission Impossible: Fallout

Worst Films of 2018

Granted that some really fantastic movies came out in 2018, there was bound to be a few stinkers in the mix. All the films on this list left a bad taste in my mouth, with Netflix coming in with 4 movies on this list. Other films I disliked consisted of horrible scripts mixed with mediocre directing, such as tent-pole blockbuster Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Pacific Rim: Uprising (coincidentally both have colons in their titles.) All of these films are pretty interchangeable, but the top 2 are locked in. I don’t hate many things, but I do hate The Open House and Shane Black’s The Predator with every fiber in my being.

Dishonorable Mentions: The Cloverfield Paradox, Mute, Winchester

10. Sierra Burgess is a Loser

9. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

8. Cargo

7. The Nun

6. Pacific Rim: Uprising

5. The Week Of

4. Venom

3. I Feel Pretty

2. The Open House

1. The Predator

That’s a beautiful top four, Corbin. This is great stuff, you know, aside from Venom being better than Infinity War.
