Now we’re talking …

Before going back to work, Carrie sent Frannie off to school. Nothing much was happening on Wellington’s surveillance which was worrying. Martin got served with a subpoena. The question was how to stop her from being questioned before they could evaluate her state of mind but the only way they knew about her state of mind was because of the illegal surveillance they were doing. The question then was that what if martin’s contact was someone else altogether?

Wellington talked to Paley about Martin’s subpoena. He claimed that she didn’t know anything but there was evidence leading to her so he didn’t budge. Further surveillance on Wellington involved him questioning Martin. The plan was to talk to her to get her to flip on Wellington and Carrie wanted to be a part of it. Unfortunately she wasn’t connected to anyone other than Wellington.

While being questioned by Paley, Martin wanted immunity and witness protection in exchange for her testimony. She claimed to be picking up money and dropping it off for a male senior White House official. She kept records of her communications. Carrie didn’t believe any of it but she couldn’t say why. Dante wondered if she was in the right state of mind.

Saul visited a lecture being taught by an old friend from the CIA and an expert on Russia named Sandy (Catherine Curtin) who he took out for coffee. He was looking for the Russian defector who was also a professor. He was missing for years but he needed her help. Krupin visited an open house where the real estate agents was another operative who was worried that he’d jeopardized their network but he had lost his FBI tail. He wanted to speak to Gromov. Meanwhile, Saul was putting a team together including Sandy and an IT guy.

Carrie met with Saul and talked about her case and her suspicions. She admitted that she was surveilling Wellington which put Saul in a tough position. He helped her see that Dante may be involved seeing that he coincidentally provided the information that implicated Martin and Wellington thus the White House. Saul shared his case and Carrie was worried that she may be working against his.

Krupin met with Gromov (Costa Ronin) and was upset with what he did in Lucasville and warned of what may happen to them if he continues. Krupin wanted him to stand down or he was going to alert Moscow but things have changed and this was his way to get revenge.

Keane was informed by the press that Paley was looking into Lucasville as part of his investigation while Wellington was informed that Martin was to receive immunity in exchange for testimony which took him aback. Wellington then wanted to talk to Martin who was with her lawyer at a restaurant. He wanted to know what she talked about but she made a scene of it that a stranger recorded on their phone.

Saul and his team saw the Wellington video and witnessed how quickly the video and the Lucasville story spread. He then got a call from Krupin pretending to be a compromised agent using a system that wasn’t used anymore.Unfortunately, Gromov found Krupin and sealed him in a bag bfore dropping him in the river.

Carrie called Anson to bring their team together to celebrate which was probably a ploy to get Dante to open up. She and Dante went back to his apartment where he succumb to something in his drink so the rest of the team can search it.

Overall, this was an excellent episode that pretty much established the direction for the season as it becomes more and more like the glory days of Homeland. Of course Russia is involved and they are doing everything they can to undermine Keane and the United States. This season has seen Carrie and Saul do their own thing and now they are starting to converge. It’s always better when Carrie and Saul are together. Of course Martin killing McClendon for Wellington was way too simple. There’s something bigger going on and it will be exciting to see how it all plays out.

Score: 9/10
