A few exciting battles, Fitz and Simmons get their honeymoon so to speak, and Ruby takes charge.
The episode started with Fitz, Simmons, and Yo-Yo on their own mission. Coulson and Talbot were still struggling in the elements. Talbot was upset with Coulson and himself. Ruby used the teleportation device to go where Coulson and Talbot went. Daisy and May were getting frustrated by their lack of progress in finding Coulson and Talbot. Ruby, on the other hand, found them just before the others did. Daisy stayed behind so she can take on Ruby. In what was an even match that ended too quickly, Daisy bested her and Deke got shot up by Hale. The team worked hard to save Deke, patching him up until they could get to Simmons but she wasn’t there.
The patchwork on Deke was barely holding and things got worse when they learned that Fitz, Simmons, and Yo-Yo were gone because they believed they couldn’t die. Hale gave Ruby a timeout for her actions. Piper and Mack performed makeshift surgery on Deke. Coulson informed Talbot of their possible future. Meanwhile, Fitz, Simmons, and Yo-Yo infiltrated a facility run by Ivanov. May confronted Coulson about surrendering to Hale. She thought Daisy wasn’t ready to lead and also told him that she loved him.
Von Strucker told Ruby before Hale that he figured out the chamber while encouraging her to go around her mother and they did. Ivanov was looking after the von Strucker chamber. Daisy checked in on Talbot which was kind of weird after what happened. Talbot just wanted to let his family know that he was safe. She wanted to know about the facility where he was held and what he told Hale about them. While smashing machine components, Fitz and Simmons wondered if their attempts were futile. Yo-Yo shared what her future self told her about Coulson needing to die. When encountering possible resistance, it appeared that Yo-Yo’s powers may not work with her new arms.
Fitz and Simmons stayed to hold the robot soldiers off while Yo-Yo went to call for help. Yo-Yo ran into Ivanov and they fought meanwhile Fitz and Simmons were running low on ammo. Deke was saved but he appeared to be high on drugs. She killed this version of Ivanov which disabled the robots attacking Fitz and Simmons. When they thought they were safe, Ruby and von Strucker showed up. Ruby put a blade at Simmons’ neck, forcing Fitz to repair the chamber.
The last scene was of Talbot looking at his file until Daisy showed up to give him a way to communicate with his son. When he called home, his wife read from a script in order to trigger him for something.
Overall, this was a great episode featuring an exciting side mission involving Fitz and Simmons where they began to question their invincibility. They don’t get to be in too many action scenes so it was cool to see them here. After sort of being hyped in the previews, the Daisy and Ruby fight was disappointing (although it won’t be the last) but the Yo-Yo and Ivanov fight made up for it. Hale and Ruby have had a contentious relationship so Ruby’s standing up to her was inevitable. Maybe it’s her that causes the end of the world? We knew May loved Coulson, however, it was nice to hear her say it. The most interesting thing to come out of the episode was the last scene with Talbot. It definitely will be interesting to see how he figures in to all of this.
