The Flash Season 4 Episode 20: Therefore She Is Review

Marlize finally saw the light in last week’s episode of The Flash! And we were so incredibly happy that she decided to leave creepy ‘ol Devoe behind. A lot went down in the episode, and while it wasn’t absolutely amazing it did shed some light on the Devoes’ past–helping us to understand who they truly are and how they met.

It’s been very difficult to watch Marlize be a victim of Devoe’s downward spiral over the course of the season but last week’s episode helped us understand why he is the way he is. A flashback to the past shows how Devoe basically despises technology and the effect it has had on the world. He wants to “enlighten” the world by rebooting everyone’s brains back to basic.

Marlize comes across one of his journals and learns of his devious, frightening plans. And while she does leave at first, she returns to his side after one of her projects abroad is attacked. In the present, the couple is trying to gather whatever else they need but all the while Marlize is drifting away from her murderous husband.

Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Team Flash is struggling to come up with a game plan to take down Devoe. Barry asks Cisco to reach out to Gypsy, so they can simultaneously vibe Devoe to figure out his next step. However, this turns out to be an epic fail because Cisco and Gypsy are not vibing as a couple–at all. If you recall, Breacher asked Cisco to take over for him but he has not made a decision, and this causes a rift between the couple.

Barry attempts to bring the two together, but Iris reminds him that it’s not up to him to solve every problem in the universe. Thank you, Iris! Cisco and Gypsy finally get a moment to discuss their relationship issues only to discover that it isn’t going to work. Cisco doesn’t want the job and she doesn’t want him to take it either, but they also live on different Earths, which presents a whole other problem. Cisco doesn’t want a long-distance relationship, but she is okay with it–R.I.P. #CisYpsy.

Barry realizes that Devoe is building multiple satellites for something he isn’t certain of just yet, but it will require a special computer to make it work. The computer is only available at Mercury Labs so the team vibes there just in the nick of time to stop Devoe and Marlize. While Team Flash is initially kicking his butt, Devoe overpowers them and nearly kills Gypsy but Marlize talks him down.

Poor Harry continues to lose his intelligence and spends the episode keeping Cecile busy while Joe planned her surprise baby shower. During this distraction, he learns that since Cecile can read his mind, she can convey the things he’s trying to say before he loses it forever. Thanks to this discovery, they are able to figure out Devoe’s plan–to reboot all of mankind.

And in the final moments of the episode, we see the mysterious girl show up at Cecile’s baby shower. And just as Iris is about to come to the door, we see she has disappeared to around the corner and then discover that she is a speedster! The coolest part? Her lightning streaks are a mix between Iris and Barry’s colors!

Will Marlize join Team Flash? And what is up with that mystery girl? Is she future Barry and Iris’s daughter?  There are quite a few questions that are still left unanswered and we hope, sincerely hope, that this mediocre season gives us something amazing by the time the season ends.
