Agents of SHIELD Season 5 Episode 21: The Force of Gravity Review

The stage is set for the end of the world as the team has to make an important decision that will impact the future of the planet.

The episode started with Daisy, somewhere at the edge of the galaxy, waking up to Taryan (Craig Parker), one of the first members of the house of Kasius, while Coulson and May were still being held captive on the alien ship above the lighthouse. Though Simmons was feeling uneasy about the centipede serum, Fitz suggested that there may be another way that involved saving Coulson. Talbot came to the zephyr to take the quinjet back to Earth using his new powers.

Coulson felt guilty for Talbot and May believed that he wasn’t Coulson’s responsibility. Talbot, looking for more gravitonium, visited Creel to offer help although it was just a ruse to absorb him and his powers. Taryan offered Daisy an opportunity to go with him and realize her full potential. She couldn’t use her powers because she was still unconscious and it was all a dream as she was being brought to Taryan but eventually managed to escape her predicament. When faced with finding a solution to kill Talbot, Fitz had the idea of using the centipede serum to deliver an alien poison. Deke saved Coulson and May and ran into Daisy.

Deke wanted to leave the alien ship but Coulson and May were worried about the missiles that Kovacs had pointing at the lighthouse. Mack figured out that Talbot’s next target would be his family. They were surprised to see him and they quickly became scared of him as he got angrier. He was suffering from trust issues as he believed his wife was working with Shield and Hydra against him. May thought they should split up with Coulson going back to the ship, however, he didn’t go easily. While they were being shot at, he used his hand to activate a shield that shielded them so they could share a kiss.

Mack and Yo-Yo caught up with Talbot who was way too powerful for them. His son appeared to convince him that he was the bad guy and not them before flying away. May and Deke got to the bridge of the alien ship. May did not want to deactivate the missiles but to give them a new target. While Deke was setting up the coordinates, using his skill with numbers, to teleport back, May fought Kovacs meanwhile Coulson and Daisy left in the zephyr. As Kovacs fired the missiles back at the ship, May and Deke got away and returned to the lighthouse.

Coulson was injured earlier during a fight scene and what seemed like a flesh wound got much worse. The team was now forced to choose between using the centipede serum to save Coulson or kill Talbot because they only had enough to do one or the other.

The last scene was of Talbot with Robin and Polly where Talbot asked Robin about his future.

Overall, this was a good episode that gave us more answers about the end of the world. It’s clear now that Talbot will play a part in it and Shield’s role will be by choosing who to kill and who to save. Despite this, Talbot is still not believable as a villain because of his lack of character development. The connection to Infinity War was a minimal one where the events of the film happened in the background. Whether or not we will see more remains to be seen, however, knowing what happens at the end of that film, along with the fact that this may be the final season, one could only imagine what will happen but it will be exciting. Let the speculation begin!
