This week was The Flash’s penultimate episode of the fourth season, and it was…alright. This has been the general sentiment regarding this season as it has become easy to be skeptical that anything dramatic is going to happen. However, Cecile was absolutely hilarious this episode, and Danielle Nicolet killed it!
John Diggle makes an appearance this week when he shows up at the A.R.G.U.S. facility. He gets into the facility but we quickly realize that it is DeVoe using Ralph’s power to get in. When he breaks in, he kills the guards and hacks into their system to gain access to a metahuman being kept there.
Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, the team is trying to come up with a way to take down DeVoe and his satellites. Cisco suggests they split up to increase their chances of defeating him. Meanwhile, Iris’s new blog is doing wonderfully with the number of visitors rapidly increasing–but of course, DeVoe attempts to hack into her site. Through this hack, Cisco learns that DeVoe is after Fallout and through him DeVoe will initiate “the Enlightenment”.
He plans to use the nuclear energy from Fallout to help power up his satellites and thus initiating his plan. And while doing so, he is holding hostages at the facility.
Iris and Harry team up this episode, making for some great moments as the two switch roles this week. While Iris was making decisions based on facts, Harry pushed her to think about Marlize’s emotions. They are trying to locate her so they can convince her to talk her husband down from destroying the world. After taking Harry’s advice, Iris concludes that Marlize must be in her and DeVoe’s first home, because of the sentimental value it holds for their relationship.
Cisco and Caitlin come up with a plan to help Barry with DeVoe and suggest that they go into Flashtime with him. Although he initially resists, Barry ends up training them on how to operate when in Flashtime. At first, Cisco is unable to breach and use his powers but quickly grasps how to. Caitlin, on the other hand, is unable to and falls unconscious as a past suppressed trauma comes flooding her memories.
Cecile has a great episode this week as her pregnancy is causing her powers to be heightened and not only can she read minds, but she can actually channel their very being. The only way she is able to snap out of it is by using an inhaler Caitlin gives her, or by meditating out of it.
After the incident with Caitlin, Barry decides against training them and refuses to put them in danger. But Cisco fights back because they are a team and Barry can’t cling to the guilt of Ralph’s death forever, because they’ve all made mistakes.
Iris and Harry pay Marlize a visit and confront her about DeVoe and taking him down. They manage to convince her to help them out, but whether or not she actually will is yet to be seen. Back at the A.R.G.U.S. facility, DeVoe takes all of Fallout’s power as Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin show up. They manage to save the hostages and Barry gets through the pocket dimension and destroys one satellite.
DeVoe doesn’t seem too defeated over this and in return uses one of S.T.A.R. Lab’s satellites to replace the one that Barry destroyed. And just like that, the Enlightenment begins. Is this the end of the world as they know it?
Next week is the season four finale of The Flash and while we can pretty much predict what will happen, hopefully we will be taken by surprise and something amazing will go down. Perhaps the Mystery Girl’s identity will be revealed and her purpose of lurking around behind-the-scenes will finally be understood. Whatever the case is, let’s hope it is something good!
