You’ve seen other writers make their picks but it’s my turn so now, here are my personal picks for the top 10 best and worst films of 2018. Stay tuned for more picks from our other writers.

Best Films of 2018

As the year has come and gone, many have claimed that this was a disappointing year for film, something which was certainly not the case. Many of my choices for the best of the year weren’t the most buzz-worthy awards titles, but a lot of festival favorites ended up here. Funny enough, many films on my list ended up having their premieres at major film festivals – Green Book at TIFF, Upgrade at SXSW, and my favorite of the year, BlacKkKlansman at Cannes. All of these films had a deep emotional connection with me and you should all seek these out if you haven’t seen them yet.

Honorable Mentions: Eighth Grade, Pass Over, Sorry To Bother You, Free Solo, The Hate U Give, Burning, On the Basis of Sex

10. Beast

9. Upgrade

8. Bad Times at the El Royale

7. Green Book

6. Love, Simon

5. A Quiet Place

Worst Films of 2018

I, for one, try my best to actively avoid bad movies. The films on my list are some that I was genuinely looking forward to seeing, whether it be the talent involved or the franchise it was apart of, before being ultimately let down. Being somewhat conflicted about worst lists, a bad review is enough, so I’ll simply leave my specific thoughts towards the films below open ended.

10. Beautiful Boy

9. The Sisters Brothers

8. Uncle Drew

7. McQueen

6. Solo: A Star Wars Story

5. The Cloverfield Paradox

4. Suspiria

3. Mary Queen of Scots

2. Superfly

1. Prospect
