Best and Worst Films of 2018

You’ve seen other writers make their picks but it’s my turn so now, here are my personal picks for the top 10 best and worst films of 2018 (along with some honorable/dishonorable mentions). Stay tuned for more picks from our other writers.

Best Films of 2018

2018 was pretty much a wonderful year overall in film. I’ve seen over 70 films in theaters, and upwards of 400 different movies in total, but am yet to see all I need to for 2018. This list is sort of a “as of December 31st, 2018″of my favorite films, but I still think I’m not missing too much. The picks on my list are pretty frustrating to me, truthfully, as with every rewatch of each film, the list reshuffles and, for example, Paddington 2 jumps into my top 10 from the #20 spot. As of now, there’s a few movies I really need to see before finalizing this (Wildlife, Suspiria, Shoplifters, Cold War, along with quite a few documentaries), but I can’t imagine a whole lot changing. As of December 31st, 2018, here’s my top 10 of 2018:

Honorable Mentions: Blaze, A Star is Born, Shirkers, Game Night

10. Leave No Trace

9. Thunder Road

8. Widows

7. Hereditary

6. The Favourite

5. First Man

4. Paddington 2

3. First Reformed

2. Can You Ever Forgive Me?

1. BlacKkKlansman

Worst Films of 2018

My bottom ten is much less well rounded this year – there’s only four movies here that are truly angering, and even with that, I just haven’t seen enough of these this year to say that these are definitely the bottom 5 of the year. I didn’t have enough vitriol for films this year, so here’s a bottom five instead. Don’t get me wrong, these films are really not good. Here are the five worst that I’ve seen this year:

Dishonorable Mentions: Green Book, Mute, Bird Box, Hospitality

5. Nobody’s Fool

4. Bohemian Rhapsody

3. Gotti

2. Aquaman

1. Ready Player One
