Still more meh.
This episode started with the kid from the end of the last episode being examined. He escaped a group called the Soothsayers who were building some sort of tunnel. The people on the mainland believed that Gordon should not do anything and wait it out, however, this was clearly not going to happen. Gordon was set on rescuing the other kids so they would have to go through plenty of unsafe territory to do so, including Siren territory. Barbara knew that Gordon’s plan was suicide but she lent him transport anyway. She still wanted to kill Penguin, however, that would have to wait.
The convoy immediately faced some opposition while the Soothsayers were working their slaves hard. They were building a tunnel to the mainland. The convoy soon showed up and used a show a force to diffuse the situation at first until their lack of ammo was more evident. They still saved the kids though, most of them. Gordon and Bullock were left behind with a few kids and now had to evade the Soothsayers. They later found themselves in an abandoned hotel with a murderous old woman. Once leaving the hotel, they found themselves in a rival gang war about Gordon’s bounty.
Bruce was looking for the Witch to try and save Selina, however, he found Ivy who was the Witch. Ivy knew of a magical seed that could save Selina that was buried underground. They would just have to find it. She manipulated Bruce into letting her out of her cage. Ivy seemed to not care about Selina but she chose to help anyway in exchange for being left alone. She found Bruce the seed though it wouldn’t be guaranteed to work. If it did, it would change her. The seed appeared to work until it induced a seizure.
If you thought that was enough, The Riddler defeated his recent bout of sleepwalking or at least that’s what he thought. He managed to abduct a member of a street gang the night before seemingly for information. Now he had to get that information again and figure out his earlier state of mind. He wanted to know the location of the street gang base but he had already been there to reap havoc which may or may not started a war.
Luckily for Gordon, Barbara showed up just in time to save the day. Penguin would still have to wait, however, Gordon wasn’t ruling it out. Their latest victory also got the attention of others who flocked to them for safety. Selina is no longer paralyzed but she’s different with the last shot of the episode being that of her cat eyes.
Overall, Trespassers was your run-of-the-mill overstuffed episode of Gotham, doing pretty much the same things over again while not offering much else. Not much happened to advance the season other than Selina taking one more step in becoming Catwoman and the GCPD becoming more of a Sanctuary. Ultimately, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. It’s time to move things along Gotham!
