This week once again falls short of excitement and thrill in the world of The Flash. Sure, watching Ralph and Barry fight a villain without their powers was exciting, but that’s about it. While Cisco and Caitlin are hard at work on the metahuman cure, everyone else sets their focus on Cicada and how to bring him down. Side note: Cicada is not a great villain and is rather disappointing, at least in my opinion.

Iris is trying her hardest to get the Central City Citizen off the ground, but her critics have some harsh words regarding her writing. In hopes of appeasing them, she convinces Barry to let her interview Dwyer (aka Cicada). Of course, this is a horrible idea but it doesn’t stop Iris from going anyway. Assuming no one is home, Iris breaks into the house and is caught off guard when Dwyer catches and violently confronts her. Luckily, she gets away after stabbing him.

The funniest part about this Flash episode is seeing Ralph and Barry go undercover to find some black market tech. It is something that Caitlin needs as a part of the cure and a metahuman by the name of Goldface is the only means to obtain it. The undercover operation gets more hilarious as the both of them agree to go on a mission to convince Goldface that they are truly bad.

Eventually, Ralph and Barry unveil their identity and end up fighting Goldface by tricking him into electrocuting himself. In other parts of the episode, Nora, with Eobard’s guidance, decides to distract Sherloque so he’ll stop looking into her. The plan is to get him to cross paths with the woman he has repeatedly married in other Earths so his time is spent on being smitten. At first, Nora’s plan fails and Sherloque ends up creeping the woman out. But by the end of the episode, she convinces Sherloque to take a different approach and explain his work as a detective so the woman understands why he knows so much about her. It turns out that Nora’s mission is a success and he begins to look more into the woman when he learns that she is a meta.

Unfortunately, Barry and Ralph don’t acquire the technology Caitlin needed, but Iris has a plan. It has something to do with a pen she finds when they all go to Dwyer’s house. But what is this plan? Looks like we’ll have to wait and find out.

The Flash is having a weird up and down season, and while some episodes are fun to watch, others just are flat out boring. The only part of this episode that I enjoyed was watching Barry and Ralph fight Goldface and watching Barry pretend to be a scary thug. But I’m certainly confused over the appeal of Cicada as a villain and am over the whole “What is Nora up to” thing. Here’s to hoping the rest of the season picks up the pace and gives us something to talk about.

Score: 6/10
