Code Yellow was a fun episode that saw the return of Deke but while it's nice to see the gang getting back together, the season just got more confusing

Synopsis: Yo-Yo and Keller take things public; parasitic aliens threaten the human race; and someone really needs Boba. (IMDB)

In Code Yellow, we finally know what Deke has been up to while series co-creator and co-showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen makes an appearance as an Instagram influencer. Meanwhile, the season has gone back to being confusing as Sarge and his team’s ultimate plan remains unclear. We also have to wait at least one more episode to find out what’s going on back in space after the events of the last episode.

This episode started with Deke, who is now a Silicon Valley type boasting his own virtual reality technology for which he stole from SHIELD of course, testing a new simulation (for which he called the framework, based on past experience in the future with a special appearance by a vivacious Daisy). He then got woke up by his Instagram influencer Sequoia (Tancharoen) and then boasted about his ambitions (also fueled by his past experience).

At SHIELD, they were investigating whatever Sarge did at the end of the last episode but they didn’t really know what was going on (perhaps blasting a map into the sky?) but it was clear that they were looking for something. Keller visited Mack’s office to try and share his relationship with Yo-Yo, however, Mack already knew and didn’t want to hear any of it because he didn’t want to change the current status quo (Keller wanted Yo-Yo to get some closure with Mack first). Meanwhile, Sarge and his gang found a man who they were looking for and stabbed him which made the man transform into something alien-looking.

Deke was interrupted by a man who had to meet him. They believed that it was one of their investors but the man was Sarge. He didn’t know about Sarge so Sarge tried to take advantage of that as Deke tried to reconnect (and pad his own accomplishments), however, Deke eventually figured out that the man he was talking to wasn’t Coulson. He was apparently Sarge’s next target as he didn’t belong (being from a different timeline) and had apparently been hunting people like him all his life. Deke would get saved by a fellow employee of his company who was an undercover SHIELD agent.

Mack and May arrived in a zephyr which overwhelmed Deke but they would quickly forget about him as they were more interested in Sarge and his gang. The team launched an assault inside but Deke did not want to stay on the sidelines as Sequoia was back at their office with some bubble tea that she had wanted to have with him. He got past the agent who was watching him and went back in to find her. Meanwhile, Mack and May split up. She had a cool fight with Snowflake (Brooke Williams), with Sarge getting the upper hand on her by the end (they took her since they needed her for some reason), while Mack fought Pax (Matt O’Leary) and Jaco (Winston James Francis) with Deke getting comically overzealous with his icer and leading Jaco to his framework as a distraction (Mack was not impressed).

SHIELD later took possession of Sarge’s latest victim (who was headed towards a energy line convergence point). Dr. Benson was stumped by the discovery and it got weirder when the man had an alien living inside of him that could control its host. The alien they found flew out of a corpse and fled further into the base, only to later fly into Keller. He and Yo-Yo went back to Dr. Benson who wasn’t sure about how to help. Meanwhile, the alien was trying to take control of Keller. In the end, he couldn’t be saved and Yo-Yo would have to stop him just like Sarge stopped the other man.

The last scene was of Sequoia’s oblivious livestream of what happened.

This season’s (or this arc’s) better become clear soon.
