The Flash (6×12) A Girl Named Sue Review

Synopsis: After months of searching for Sue Dearbon, Ralph gets a lead on her whereabouts; Sue refuses to return home to her family, and instead takes Ralph on a daring adventure; Iris faces a new challenge; Barry considers a potentially dangerous request. (IMDb)

The Flash finally gave comic book fans the beloved Sue Dearbon. Now, it may take a little bit before we get there, but in the comics, Sue and Ralph are married. They are a pretty adorable couple, and that will hopefully that is the direction the series takes us in eventually (hopefully, Barry is the best man in the show too!). This week’s episode is fun, but sort of boring, exciting, yet sort of underwhelming. It’s a tad bit better than the usual but I wouldn’t say I was on the edge of my seat or anything.

A Girl Named Sue spent most of its time between Iris and the Ralph/Sue storyline, but there were some moments to take note of. Stuck in a mirror dimension, Iris continues to freak out that she can’t find a way out, but luckily?, she learns that Eva McCulloch (Efrat Dor) is stuck there with her. The night of the particle accelerator explosion, Eva got thrown through the mirror and has been stuck there ever since. She’s attempted 1,322 times to get out of there, but failed every time. Leave it to Iris to make her try once again, only to fail and be disappointed. She presents the idea of turning the mirror into liquid nitrogen but it ends up being an epic fail and the mirror shatters. Filled with anger, Eva starts to ramble on about how she’s failed once again, and how she actually thought she’d be going home.

Whether it was rage or some power she obtained after the explosion, she attracted shards of glass into her hands and was able to put the mirror back together. While that’s not the final solution, it’s one step closer…and Barry is on the other side, “sensing” something about the mirror.

Meanwhile, Ralph has been on the lookout and search for Sue Dearbon, after her parents came to him nearly nine months ago. He hasn’t had much luck finding her…until now. He tracks down an apartment she put a deposit on but is nearly killed when said apartment blows up. Luckily, Sue (Natalie Dreyfuss) is there to save the day. Sue has been on the run all these months because of an ex, an ex that wants her dead because she knows things about his illegal arms business. She wants to get her hands on a ledger that would incriminate her ex, and asks Ralph’s helps to do it. It’s a rather cute back and forth as the duo ends up breaking into a bank.

Unfortunately, Ralph learns the hard way that Sue has been lying all this time and is in reality, a thief. She just wanted to get her hands on a diamond that her ex had put away. At this point, Ralph has revealed that he’s Elongated Man, and the two come to an understanding that they will keep one another’s secret. Too bad Sue gets away before he can do anything, and Ultraviolet is back to try and get the diamond as well.

It’s unclear where we’re going with this Iris/Eva storyline (hopefully, something along the lines of Mirror Master), but this reviewer is excited about Sue and Ralph’s arc. Hopefully we get something great out of this, and this cute/dangerous interaction will only bring us to some more exciting stuff!
