Unsaid said a lot as this great episode of The Good Doctor saw Murphy connect with a patient while facing plenty of personal drama.

Synopsis: Despite everyone else’s doubts, Shaun is hopeful that Carly is truly fine with his friendship with Lea; the team treats a young boy born without a fully formed trachea who may be a good candidate for an experimental procedure. (TV Guide)

Any episode the features Murphy singing some Nicki Minaj is already a winner but that wasn’t everything that happened in this week’s episode of The Good Doctor as it saw plenty of character drama that would take up more of the focus than the cases. However, one would see Murphy connect with a patient in an unsurprisingly though powerful way.

Unsaid started with Murphy making Carly breakfast and it was a success, resulting in some action which made him late for work (he didn’t hide it). After Melendez got in trouble, he went out of his way to not play favorites (thus affecting his behavior for this episode and maybe more). Meanwhile, the cases this week included a female firefighter who had her arm destroyed thanks to a dog attack (who was obviously worried about getting back to her job) and a boy born without a fully formed trachea who couldn’t speak (suffice it to say Murphy connected with him).

With the episode title and the case with the boy, communication was a big topic this week as it pertained to Murphy’s relationship with Carly. Reznick throwing non-verbal communication into the mix which threw Murphy for a loop (Carly and Lea were both saying more than they were leading on to him and each other which didn’t help). Meanwhile during surgery to open up the boy’s airway, Reznick’s arthritis acted up. The surgery was a success but Murphy was still worried about the boy’s inability to talk and how it would affect his development (though an encounter with Lea led to a breakthrough). Murphy’s plea to his parents was ultimately successful as was the surgery.

Browne was thrown for a loop by the anonymous complaint against Melendez since she knew it was related to her relationship with him (he put an end to their running). She was trying to figure out who lodged the complaint which distracted her. Park claimed that it was him and he did it to help her and then the competition began. Meanwhile. surgery was a success and the skin grafts were taking but the woman couldn’t feel anything on the injured arm. Surgery to repair the woman’s nerves was successful despite Browne and Park’s competitiveness.

Murphy and Carly went to a bar where their first attempt at making out in public was interrupted by Lea and her date. From there, they hung out and sung karaoke, including the aforementioned Nicki Minaj. Carly saw the way Murphy and Lea looked together and was clearly worried and upset. Meanwhile, Browne and Melendez happened to go to the same bar. He decided to leave but then changed his mind. Also, Lim confronted Reznick, who actually lodged the complaint because obviously. Lim was confused but this didn’t protect Reznick.

The episode ended with a powerful and emotional scene (thanks to Freddie Highmore and Jasika Nicole) where Carly broke up with Murphy. Let’s see how this affects him going forward.
