Synopsis: A new villain sinks her teeth into Gotham; The Hold Up opens in grand fashion; Sophie reluctantly requests that Batwoman keep her distance, knowing their interactions could compromise her career. (TVGuide)

Batwoman has been tugging at our heartstrings a bit over the last couple of weeks. But last week was a gut-punch when the Crisis version of Beth unexpectedly died. Of course, this made things a bit awkward for Kate who thought Alice was taking her final breaths in her arms. It doesn’t bode well for the future of their relationship. In any case, there was a new villain to deal with this week in the form of a vampire named Nocturna. It was a nice break from everything Batwoman has been focused on as of late which wasn’t quite as bad as expected. However, it’s certainly not one of Batwoman’s strongest episodes.

Batwoman fight with Nocturna was certainly entertaining to watch. Sometimes we forget how badass Kate is as Batwoman, and seeing her in her element is one of the show’s strongest points. Unfortunately, the fight doesn’t last for too long and leads to Batwoman being bit by Nocturna and getting paralyzed. Luckily, the C.R.O.W.s show up before any major damage is done–and Sophie shows up and lets Batwoman go free. This proves to bite her in the butt later when Kate’s father finds out Sophie has been helping Batwoman. She gets suspended from the team–and then makes out with Batwoman. How does she not recognize Kate’s kiss? She has to, right?

To take Nocturna down, Kate arranges a party to lure her out. Sophie is there as well on behalf of Jacob (pre-suspension), but it’s Kate and Luke who end up figuring things out, thanks to Alice. That was a surprise. Initially, Alice makes a deal with Nocturna and directs her towards Mary, who is then captured and drained for her blood. Luckily, Kate figures this all out in time and heads to the Gotham Cathedral to save Mary. It seems pretty touch and go at this point, but again, it’s Alice who ends up coming to the rescue by giving Mary some of her blood. Given what has just happened between Alice and Kate, it’s shocking to see this happen.

So why did Alice do this? She just wanted to prove to Kate that picking Beth was the wrong move, and saving her would have been the way to go. Something tells me this sisterly bond is about to get more complicated then it has ever been. But on the plus side (or maybe not), Mary finally figures out that Kate is Batwoman. Hopefully this ends up being an exciting thing for her and not one where Mary is upset and angry for being lied to.

We will find out in two weeks!
