The Flash gives us a relatively exciting episode as a new version of Team Flash work together to save Barry...and Grodd.

Synopsis: Feeling overwhelmed with all the changes since Crisis, Barry conducts an experiment that goes awry and puts him directly in Gorilla Grodd’s path; Iris works with Eva to escape the Mirrorverse. (IMDb)

Who would have thought that Grodd and The Flash would become…friends? Well, it is a post-Crisis world, and at this point, nothing comes as a surprise anymore. Speaking of which, Barry goes to visit his parents’ graves at the beginning of this episode, but the cemetery was no longer there. Another aftereffect of the Crisis. Does this mean that his parents could potentially be alive in a post-Crisis world? Maybe, just maybe.

This week’s episode brings Barry and Grodd a bit closer after a piece of tech causes Barry to go into a coma as Gorilla Grodd takes over his mind. When Barry comes to, he’s not exactly in his own reality and is instead appearing to everyone as Grodd. It was a bit jarring to see all the characters talk with Grodd’s voice, but also a great way to put things into perspective. In a post-Crisis world, this version of Grodd is very different, in fact, he’s kinder. And because of this change, Grodd shares his inner thoughts with Barry and tells him how he can leave this dreamlike state.

Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Kaitlin, Cisco’s girl Camilla, and Chester figure out what happened to Barry. And while they try to scramble up a solution, Barry and Grodd merge together to try and go through the portal. Unfortunately, Solovar is guarding it so they have to fight their way through it. As Caitlin points out, Barry and Grodd cannot go into the portal as their merged selves because Barry would get stuck inside of Grodd forever. Thanks to Chester’s new tech, Barry is able to separate from Grodd right as they defeat Solovar, and things end up okay with a new version of Team Flash.

Grodd is allowed to go live in Gorilla City for the rest of his days, while once again, thanks to Chester, Barry learns where his parents are buried. I’m liking this Chester guy a lot! I hope he’s going to stick around for a while–he makes the team more fun! Before the episode closed out we touch base with Iris in the Mirrorverse. Yup, she’s still stuck there with Eva, but she’s unaware of what is actually going on. It turns out Eva is actually evil, and she’s in cahoots with the evil Iris in the real world.

What the heck is going on? Will Iris make it out? And who else is excited to see Wally return in the next episode of The Flash?
