With the infamous 4/20 coming up very soon, here’s a list of 10 great gems you can check out whilst celebrating the unofficial official stoner holiday.

10. Enter The Void (2010)

Enter The Void is the furthest thing from your typical marijuana film. Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean it won’t drive audiences into a deep state of euphoria filled with beautiful colors and a film experience you are likely to remember forever. This psychedelic representation of life after death is seen entirely from the point of view of Oscar as his spirit journeys from the past — where he sees his parents before their deaths — to the present — where he witnesses his own autopsy — and then to the future, where he looks out for his sister from beyond the grave. Gaspar Noé’s experimental piece is one that can’t be missed and can really be a “trip”in itself. Check it out now!

9. Friday (1995)

What makes Friday stand out from other films that fall into the “stoner comedy”category, is its sweet, heartfelt and comedic themes. Blazers will surely find wild humor in the iconic character of Smokey played by Chris Tucker, while others are sure to find laughs & popular quotes throughout the film. Friday follows Craig (Ice Cube) and Smokey as a regular Friday that gets increasingly wilder as the day goes on. Paired with a great soundtrack, this is a film that can’t be missed.

8. Half Baked (1998)

Insanely dopey, funny and lighthearted, Half Baked is a great choice for 4/20. Following three dimwitted stoners who attempt to get their friend out of jail, the film keeps the laughs going thanks to the lead performance of Dave Chappelle. Although many may disregard it for its immature & half baked humor (no pun intended), all it takes is the right state of mind (if you know what I mean) to have a great time.

7. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)

Yes, I am aware I manage to bring a Kevin Smith film into almost every list I make but this is for all the right reasons. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is a wacky, easygoing hell of a good time. Following stoners Jay and Silent Bob on a quest to stop Bluntman & Chronic from being made, the duo come across tons of wild adventures with some really great cameos along the way. In the end, Jay and Silent Bob are sure to entertain anyone of any age with a good sense of humor.

6. Dazed and Confused (1993)

Perhaps the deepest film ever to involve marijuana all throughout the film, Dazed and Confused is a great hangout film to make you feel social during this quarantine. Best paired with a bud, this 70’s nostalgia trip will be sure to leave you saying alright alright alright!

5. The Beach Bum (2019)

The Beach Bum is what I consider the spiritual follow up to David Wooderson’s life in Dazed and Confused. With Matthew McConaughey as Moondog, the film follows his dope filled journey of life in the rag tag Florida state. With an extremely well written script from Harmony Korine, it manages to balance a well done story with fun antics from all characters. It is also worth mentioning that marijuana icon Snoop Dogg has a huge role in it? Be sure to check this one out now!

4. Trailer Park Boys The Movie (2006)

Who better to spend 4/20 with than the canadian dope pope’s Ricky, Julian and Bubbles. Trailer Park Boys The Movie creates a fresh storyline separate from the television series in which it is based. Following three scotian petty criminals on their mission to pull off “The Big Dirty”heist, the film is sure to leave you laughing, swearing and talking like a scotian all while leaving a great smile on your face.

3. How High (2001)

Perhaps one of the most wild plots in any stoner film, How High follows two stoners played by Wu-Tang Clan members Method Man and Redman who discover a magic type of weed that makes them extremely smart. Taking no effort to watch, the film will surely leave most audiences giggling at the wild story that unfolds, This film is just a great time.

2. Harold and Kumar Trilogy (2004-2011)

Harold and Kumar are perhaps one of the most iconic duos in stoner films. With each of the films in their series gets crazier than the one that preceded it, we follow Harold and Kumar on their stoned munchie trips, from escaping Guantanamo Bay and to embarking on very special Christmas adventure. Perfect to binge as a triple feature or individually, none of them will disappoint!

1. Up In Smoke (1978)

The dopest film of all dope films and the pinnacle of the Cheech and Chong films, Up In Smoke is without a doubt the absolute best choice when picking a film to watch on 4/20. Following the iconic duo on their best adventure to compete in a rock band contest, the two experience plenty of crazy adventures and shenanigans along the way. With an extremely catchy original soundtrack and belly laugh performances from Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong as Cheech and Chong, This can absolutely not be missed.
