Batwoman drops some revealing teasers ahead of its season 1 finale, giving us quite the riveting, yet still mediocre episode.

Synopsis: Batwoman enlists Luke and Julia for an undercover mission to recover one of the most important items from her cousin’s arsenal; Alice gets an unexpected visit from Jacob Kane; Mary tries to prove herself to Kate. (TVGuide)

After last week’s episode of Batwoman the team is coming together quite nicely, especially with the addition of Mary. Unfortunately for her, Kate isn’t too eager to let her join in on the action, and is resisting any and all help. This part of the episode sort of irritated me because Kate was quick to not give her a chance. Why do we even have to do that whole spiel when we knew it was going to end up with Kate letting Mary participate anyway?

Moving on, Kate has an organ smuggler to deal with during this week’s episode, but what’s more important here is getting their hands on Lucius Fox’s journal, which contains the information needed to eliminate Batman. The trip to the club ends up being a disastrous one for team Batwoman, however, after both Kate and Julia get caught. This results in Mary swooping in to save the day, and boy, does she kick some major butt doing it. Of course, we knew this part of the episode was going to come one way or another, but it’s great she finally got to show Kate what she’s capable of. Her fashion skills, medical knowledge, and ability to work quickly come in handy as she works to save Batwoman, who is being auctioned for parts–literally.

Meanwhile, at Arkham Asylum, Alice is up to her usual shenanigans and is eager to get her hands on the journal herself. Anything Kate wants, she wants more, and she will do anything to get the journal. Given Tommy Elliott is the one who has the journal hidden, Alice works with him to get her hands on it. This involves a series of tactics which include giving Tommy a new face so he can escape Arkham without anyone noticing. She sends Magpie to get the journal from the club, but before she can get away with it, Mary saves the day and is gets Batwoman free from her shackles. The journal is safe and sound in Kate’s hands by the end of the night, until she makes one grave mistake. You see, earlier in the episode, she ran into an ex, Reagan, who is the bartender at the club they went to.

The two hit it off and end up spending the night together, but when Kate wakes up the next morning she realizes the journal is gone. Plot twist, right? It turns out Reagan and Magpie are sisters, and she was helping her sister out with stealing the journal. I will say Reagan doesn’t seem too pleased with doing her sister’s dirty work, but it’s safe to assume that Kate isn’t going to take her back anytime soon.

As the episode comes to a close, Alice has the journal in her hands, but there’s just one slight problem–the entire thing is in code.

Well, then. Now, what?
