Synopsis: Barry turns to Hartley Rathaway for help when Godspeed returns unexpectedly; Iris tries to escape the Mirrorverse; after Barry realizes one of the changes from Crisis is that The Flash and Pied Piper are now enemies, things get tense. (IMDb)
Another week, another blah episode of The Flash. And this time around, they had to drag Godspeed into it–again. This reviewer is honestly so over the “Barry is upset, insecure, but will save the day” trope that we’ ve been had to deal with over the last few seasons. It’s so overdone, and there’s only so many times they can go back to it. Like, it’s the same thing every single season, and how every season inevitably comes to an end. This time around we’re dealing with Barry realizing that his Iris is stuck in a mirror dimension and that there aren’t many ways to save her, Kamilla, and Captain Singh. In fact, Cisco temporarily loses it when he realizes Barry has no idea what he’s going to do to save them.
Following the events of “Crisis on Infinite Earths” a lot changed for Barry and Team Flash, including friends turning into foes. This includes the Pied Piper who was no longer a friend to Barry, in fact, The Flash was responsible for Hartley’s friend, Roderick, getting majorly injured. But it’s only Hartley that can help Barry out with the Godspeed problem, so Team Flash has to come up with a way to get his help. As it turns out, Hartley’s rage over Roderick (Joel Semande) is so intense because they are in love. Okay, makes sense why he’d hate the Flash so much.
The episode leads us to the Flash and Godspeed zooming around Central City, which makes no sense given Barry needs to conserve whatever speed he has left. And as expected, Barry’s speed gives out mid-chase, but luckily Hartley shows up in the nick of time to save him. With the two teaming up together, Godspeed is defeated, and it’s suddenly discovered that his blood is “charged sound”. Perhaps this is the key to get Barry’s speed back, defeat Eva, and get those guys out of the mirrorverse?
Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Barry gives his usual motivating speech to the team, and it’s decided that they will obviously come together to defeat Eva. But before they can, Cisco needs to head to Atlantis to grab a machine that will help them get Iris, Kamilla, and Singh out of the mirrorverse. Um, hello, Aquaman? Are we getting him in the season finale next week? Because that would be great.
It’s unclear how the finale will bring things to a close this season as it is not the actual season finale they intended. But, based on the end of this episode, Eva is ready to seek out her husband, and give him a rude awakening.
Honestly, I’m just here for a possible Aquaman cameo.
