Know Your Opinions was a solid episode that fails to build upon an exciting season premiere as the series tries to make up for lost time.

Synopsis: With the identity of the timeline-unraveling “threat” revealed, the team’s mission to protect him at all costs leads each agent to question their own values. (IMDb)

One time period down as far as this final season of Agents of SHIELD is concerned. After an exciting premiere, the series appears to be coming back to earth. While there’s still some charm to be had, this final season appears to be approaching “been there, done that” territory as the time travel subplot allows it to make up for lost time as far as the MCU is concerned.

Know Your Opinions began where the last episode left off with the team split up and Freddy, later revealed to be Wilfred Malick, in danger. Thanks to Koenig talking his way out of a situation with the chromicons (while Yo-Yo had to get over some jitters in the field post-Shrike), we learned that the item that Freddy was tasked to deliver was an ingredient in Red Skull’s super soldier formula while his female contact let slip where he was going. Meanwhile, Mack and Deke got to spend some quality time with Freddy who didn’t seem so bad (they of course did not know who he really was). He experienced some rough times but his positive outlook kept him going. He didn’t know what he was delivering and didn’t care to figure out what (Mack suspected something more going on). He was delivering bootleg alcohol containing super soldier potion vials.

The last episode ended with May waking up and she was more understanding of the situation than expected. Despite being in no condition to do anything, she wanted to go in the field and help. However, Enoch was tasked to keep her on the zephyr though he did a pretty good job at holding May off thanks (taking some damage) to some upgrades until the team came back just in time (she was unfazed by the new Coulson). The rest of the team, and an overwhelmed Koenig (he eventually learned the whole truth but he obviously didn’t believe any of it), were heading the docs to join up with the others. They would also have to save the others soon as the time they had left in 1931 was running out (the time window they followed the Chromicons to was closing). Once communication improved, Daisy ordered Deke to kill Freddy (letting slip that he knew who he would become) which Mack vehemently opposed. He was the director so Deke obeyed Mack.

As the Chromicons approached, it was time to gear up. A shootout ensued but pretty much nothing happened. Koenig confronted Freddy though at that point he was a lost cause, starting to show signs of what he’d eventually become, shooting Koenig before getting in a car that drove away. Meanwhile, the time window was also closing on the Chromicons who realized they had failed and decided to move on. It was time to storm back to the ship so everyone managed to get back in time, except for Enoch who could only watch as the zephyr disappeared (that was sad). The last scene of the episode was of Koenig and Enoch for which the latter became his bartender though most importantly his source of information about the future, from SHIELD to robots.

In the end, we are only 2 episodes in so the jury is still out but it will be interesting to see where the season goes in terms of the serialized storyline that will tie the season together as there is still a lot we don’t know (please no mere time period of the week episodes). Hopefully give the series the send-off it deserves.
