Rating Summary
I’m Your Woman is a stylish 1970s-era crime thriller that does a lot well, but also gets in its own way just enough to keep it from being exceptional.

I’m Your Woman tells the story of a mother named Jean (Brosnahan) who is forced to go on the run with her baby when the affairs of her criminal husband go awry. Along the way, she receives help from former associates of her husband, a husband and wife named Cal (Kene) and Terri (Blake). Be it in the city, the suburbs, or the countryside, Jean perilous attempts to survive with her child causes a profound evolution in her character.

The biggest standout aspect of I’m Your Woman are the excellent performances by its actors. Brosnahan plays Jean’s multi-faceted growth very well. Kene is great as both a tender family man and a cold killer. And Blake is solid as a world-weary but determined mother fighting through a world of horrible men. Where the film suffers is in its pacing. The plot could be described as patient and taking its time to unfold. But the narrative is often vague and the pacing is slow enough to test the viewer’s own patience. These issues hold the film back from true greatness.

In the end, I’m Your Woman has a lot to like. The acting is impressive. It beautifully captures the style of the 1970s. But the plot hides too much for too long and moves along too slowly, causing it to trip over its own feet. It’s still ultimately worth checking out. But it can’t rise above its issue to achieve a greater standing.
