Bury Her Next to Jasper's Leg was a solid yet intense June episode that saw her intentions go against her better judgement.

Synopsis: A deadly explosion in the oil fields sends June on a mission to save as many lives as possible. But, an investigation by Virginia threatens to undermine June’s work. (IMDb)

The spraypainters (the end-is-the-beginning-people) start to fight back in a hectic episode that surprisingly featured a vulnerable Virginia while June took charge,

Bury Her Next to Jasper’s Leg began with a woman running from a walker until she tripped. Virginia and a few of her rangers were there. She thought the woman was connected with the other spraypainters. She worked for the nearby mill but her following actions seemed to imply that she was when she made it clear that she didn’t want to be part of Virginia’s future, killing herself in front of them before they could take her back to Lawton (the episode title is where Virginia suggested they bury the women’s body which was with the buried leg of Jasper, the old mill owner).

In fact, this was a June episode as we saw her and Sarah working at some sort of mobile clinic. performing an emergency appendectomy on a man until they lost him and he became a walker within the confines of their unit. They had been doing it stretched thin and on little sleep. John picked her up and wanted to take her away because of his experience with Janis but June wanted to stay and help people. Nevertheless, they were called for duty after an explosion at Tanktown. There was still the business of saving the workers trapped inside. However, Virginia and her own motives (oil more than people) were there too and she was going to see to them inside. As far as June and John were concerned, they were leaving after this saga was over.

The spraypainters appeared to be responsible as the others were forced to contend with the unstable elements in their attempts to save the workers. Virginia was making especially hard for Wes who was impaled by some shrapnel as it appeared that he may be connected to the spraypainters. June finally stood up for him against her questioning. However, the injured were turning into walkers, joining the ones that were probably already there. The elements eventually prevailed, leading to a series of explosions. In the chaos, Virginia got a bit on the hand by a walker but was saved by June. Now that Virginia was in need of saving, June refused to help her and had her in a vulnerable position. This made her open up about up like we haven’t seen before. This was enough for June to amputate her bitten hand.

In exchange for saving Virginia, June got a hospital for which they would call the shots for (they got Wendell back). With the hospital, June had a reason to stay. She didn’t want to run. John still had his doubts and drove away from the others,

June missed her shot while John will surely end up with Morgan and that side. We are still no closer to any sort of resolution. Virginia is surely due to be defeated somehow but the story is still too fractured as a whole despite some solid moments sprinkled throughout. While it’s not aimless feet-dragging like The Walking Dead, hopefully some resolution is on the way.
