Sometimes it is hard to look for movies on the streaming services. And there are so many options out there we end up bypassing some truly great choices. Here are 5 Hidden Gems to stream right now.

Good Time (2017)

Benny and Josh Safdie may have become well-known names with their subsequent release, the great Uncut Gems, proving to us how great of an actor Adam Sandler can really be.

Their most kinetic work was released in 2017, a fantastic and incredibly trilling story of a bank robber who has only a few to save his brother from jail. It’s a fast-paced rollercoaster ride, made even more impactful because of the level of error and stupidity the characters display. A mix of Guy Ritchie and the Coen Brothers, Good Time has its very own distinct personality. To top it all, the movie features best performance of Robert Pattinson’s career, showing us just how great he truly is when given good material. It’s impossible to take our eyes off of him here, and for good reason. He’s that good.

Leave No Trace (2018)

And incredibly haunting story of a father and daughter living in the woods, director Debra Granik’s Leave No Trace is so delicate and intimate, we feel instantly connected to these two characters. The best part of the show is that Granik doesn’t give us all the answers, letting us fill the blanks and create a bit of the backstory of her characters.

A coming-of-age story of a girl living on the edge, Thomasin McKenzie fills the screen with a beautifully layered performance, the perfect balance for the restraint shown by Ben Foster. The most amazing aspect of the film is that we deeply respect these two characters for the choice they made while also understanding that there is a price being paid of it. In the end, there is no easy choice.

Uncle Frank (2020)

Alan Ball is a master of creating rich characters, and his new movie doesn’t disappoint. Uncle Frank is a road movie where the title character goes back home with his 18-year-old niece to face his demons and the family that drew him away.

Paul Bettany and Sophia Lillis complement each other perfectly on screen, creating a strong bond and a beautiful relationship. But most importantly, the film shows us that when we are too afraid to open up, we end up missing the opportunity to be surprised by the people we most desperately want to include in our lives.

Lady Macbeth (2016)

The breakout role for Florence Pugh, Lady Macbeth showed us just how talented she really is – she’s unstoppable.

As the young bride sold into marriage who comes to terms with her own straight, Pugh is mesmerizing and frightening at the same time, showing an incredible power for such a young actress (she was only twenty at the time). It’s a chamber movie, relying almost entirely on its lead actress, and she never disappoints. While Katherine’s powers grow, Pugh’s performance becomes more and more chilling. Amazing.

Giant Little Ones (2018)

Giant Little Ones is a little Canadian coming-of-age movie that’s so simple and smooth which succeeds at capturing one of the hardest things to be captured on screen. The film portrays day to day life without glitz and glamour, without extraordinary happenings, showing the little moments and small steps of the relationships of its characters with naturality and delicacy. The story unfolds with ease conducted by a cast that feels totally connected to their characters and directed with extreme sensibility by Keith Behrman.

There are many coming-of-age stories out there, but few are as beautiful and moving as this one.
