After this latest episode of WandaVision, it may seem like all the cards are on the table but there is clearly still something more going on as it gave us a better glimpse of what the series could be by finally incorporating the worlds inside and outside of Westview. The sitcom portion has now reached the late 1980s with a Family Ties twist but trying to keep Vision in check will prove to be a challenge for more reasons than the obvious ones. It was clear that he was noticing things that Wanda couldn’t just make disappear with her powers.
In terms of the story, her twins, Billy and Tommy, transformed to 5 and then 10-year-olds as the big lesson was about life and death in the form of a stray dog that they recovered but then lost. The symbolism of that should also be obvious, bringing back memories of Wanda and her twin. Though Wanda could easily bring Sparky to life via her powers, the boys had to learn a lesson which comes off as hypocritical considering the revelation that Wanda stole Vision’s corpse from SWORD merely 9 days prior and revived him against his wishes. This suggested that the Westview anomaly was created not too long after.
As the attempt to contact Wanda on the inside failed, Vision received an email at work, providing a warning that he took seriously but nobody else seemed to be. Is was there that he began to learn the extent of Wanda’s mind control over the town. Meanwhile, the challenge on the outside learning about the inside from Monica. Despite her claim of Wanda’s responsibility for what happened, she did not see her as a threat which proved to be a minority opinion. Also, she wanted back in and concocted a plan. It was clear that Wanda’s powers were much greater than anyone had realized.
Sending a drone into Westview to contact Wanda, her power over the sitcom broadcast was evident as it did not appear within it. Wanda did not appreciate it or the missile attached to it, unbeknownst to Monica. Enough so that she actually stepped out of Westview to deliver a firm warning to those on the outside. Westview was her home, kidnapped people aside. The confrontations continued back in their home with Vision now knowing Wanda’s involvement in Westview. Things got heated between them but Wanda admitted to being in control though she wasn’t aware of it right away or how it started which checks out.
That tension disappeared with the reveal at the end of the episode as her brother Pietro showed up at her door. However, it wasn’t the one we knew but rather the X-Men universe Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver (Evan Peters). This of course is big news that could potentially open up the MCU in ways we haven’t yet imagined with the inclusion of the X-Men or it could just be some one-off.
Either way, it will be exciting to see where it all goes from here.
