Synopsis: When a renowned surgeon comes to St. Bonaventure for treatment, the team’s enthusiasm is quickly overshadowed by the doctor’s behavior. After studying his case, Dr. Shaun Murphy sees a pattern he recognizes. Meanwhile, Shaun and Lea are forced to make a life-changing decision that will alter the course of their relationship. (IMDb)

The revelation at the end of last week’s episode, one where Lea told Murphy that she was pregnant, loomed large over this week episode as the two had to really think about what they were going to do, especially the threat of Murphy’s autism being inherited by their child. Meanwhile, a case prompted him and the other doctors to take a deeper look at their potential future (while Murphy saw a future version of himself) while another had their personal relationship tested. Finally, another newbie says goodbye to the hospital.

Teeny Blue Eyes (a reference to Murphy and Lea’s baby) began with Murphy impulsively moving forward despite the news Lea just dropped on him. Suffice it to say that the two would have some important thinking to do. Meanwhile, one of the cases involved Dr. Silas Chambers (a sensational Christian Clemenson) who suffered from issues with his hand. His reputation preceded him but in reality, he was not a very nice guy who also had his own list of demands (Guerin was particularly disappointed). The other case was a man named Oscar (John Hensley) with pain in his face.

Park and Reznick argued the cause of Oscar’s pain, whether or not there was actually something there (his wife thought it was just faking to get more opioids). That was until Reznick found something that suggested otherwise. The argument continued over the course of the episode. This was because they had feelings for one another whether they were willing to admit it or not. Oscar’s first surgery did not work and the next step ran a risk of causing paralysis. Regardless that risk was worth taking instead of a life of painkillers and addiction. The other surgery saw some complications but Reznick coming down from the gallery and providing another set of eyes proved beneficial.

Murphy was clearly distracted while tending to Dr. Chambers. Noticing that something was off about him, Murphy believed that he suffered from autism which did not sit well with Dr. Chambers who already had a plan in his mind and was willing to do anything to ensure he got back to work, surgery is what defined him and gave him purpose. Murphy determined that Dr. Chambers was worse than his diagnosis. Nevertheless, he defended himself and the way things were and are, regardless of what Guerin thought.

Once Murphy administered an ASD test, the truth made Dr. Chambers more defensive, causing his comfort object, a mug, to break. Later opening up to him and bringing him back his repaired mug, Dr. Chambers opened up to Murphy about what led him to where he was today and that it was too late to change. Murphy proved that people do care about him thus he came out of surgery a different man, apologizing to Murphy and Guerin. Despite this, Guerin said goodbye to the hospital, opting for a program to train doctors to work abroad.

Browne noticed something was wrong with Lea therefore they talked about Lea’s pregnancy where the latter shared her concerns while Browne helped to ease her concerns. She more or less did the same for Murphy who was in distress on a bench. Dealing Dr. Chambers and what could happen to his child, she proved that he was capable of change and that he would be a great father once the time came. At the end of the day, Murphy and Lea debriefed and she believed that maybe they weren’t ready to have a baby and Murphy supported her.

Uncomfortable with the feelings she had for Park, Reznick asked him to move out but we all know that it did not end up happening.

The episode ended with Murphy and Lea at what appeared to be an abortion clinic where they had second thoughts and decided to keep their baby.

Freddie Highmore, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee, and Paige Spara were sensational here as their character dynamics look to change once again and it will be interesting to see where they go over the remainder of the season. Also, how many newbies will remain?
