Synopsis: As Batwoman focuses on taking down Black Mask, a new foe emerges, diverting the team’s attention to a distressing issue in Gotham; Jacob travels down a dangerous path. (TVGuide)

Batwoman is back! Well, she wasn’t gone that long, but this week we’re back in Gotham City, dealing with whatever the series has in store for us. Things get started off with Jacob Kane being attacked by the False-Face Gang. While rendered unconscious, he thinks about finding Beth when she went missing. When he comes to, he realizes he’s been injected with Snakebite.

Withdrawal symptoms hit him pretty quick, and soon he finds that the hallucinations and dreams are a direct result of the addictive Snakebite. He’ll need professional help to get through this, which comes in the form of Enigma (Laura Mennell), aka who is arguably the female Riddler. Enigma works for Safiyah (Shivani Ghai), and is able to remove a person’s memories, and is hoping to do with Kate Kane–who for some reason is still lingering around in some capacity. As she begins to help Jacob, she keeps pushing him to fix things with Mary. Apparently, that’s the only way he’ll over this.

Then there’s Black Mask, aka Roman Sionis, who is hoping to get rid of Jacob. He gives him exactly what he’s looking for with Snakebite, which doesn’t bode well for the guy who is currently struggling to keep it together. And all the while, Black Mask is managing to keep the C.R.O.W.s running around looking for him with no success. Taking Enigma’s advice to heart, Jacob goes to visit Mary and tell her that he will support her with the clinic, and pay for it. But that’s not what she’s looking for. She doesn’t want to go legit, because then people can’t afford to pay for the services she provides. And then there’s also the fact that Mary just can’t forgive him for what he’s done. All this rejection leads to Jacob taking more Snakebite.

In the meantime, Sophie and Julia try to figure out how they can find Kate. During this search, Alice asks for Julia to come help her find Enigma, who is likely responsible for why Julia can’t recall some of her memories. All roads lead to Enigma but on the journey towards her, Alice and Julia find some common ground in the fact that Kate never really chose them. It was always someone else, and oddly enough, they find comfort in that shared experience. When Julia finally finds Enigma, things don’t go as planned and she is once again injected with something that makes her forget her memories. Alice shows up in Enigma’s office in the meantime and hears a recording of Jacob talking about not looking for Beth back when she was missing. And just like that, every daughter of Jacob’s has turned on him.

Switching gears to Ryan and Angelique, who are still dealing with Angelique in prison, who refuses to give up any information about the False-Face Gang. Instead of that, Angelique starts talking about how Ryan is with Batwoman, completely unaware that they’re one and the same. Mary and Ryan end up befriending a woman named Imani (Samantha Cole) at the community center, but things take a turn there when the Gazette’s Horten Spence (Jaime M. Callica) shows up complaining about the security at the center. And while Horten was a bit too much, there was some truth to that comment because soon after a new villain by the name of Killer Volt (Sean Kohnke) shows up with a lightning gun.

Is Horten actually Killer Volt? Not sure, but Batwoman sure thinks so. But she know learns that they’re two different people after Killer Volt attacks Spence who has to be taken to Mary’s lab to be treated. Yes, the same lab that has been shut down.

Thanks to Luke’s detective work, he gets a partial print from the gun and tracks it back to someone named Micky K who has been in prison for the last two years. Apparently, he never left his cell but has the battle scars from fighting with Batwoman. Well, we can thank the prison for that who lets people out on purpose to mess up community programs so more kids end up in prison in the long run.

Batwoman tries to handle the situation with the Edgewater CEO but is attacked by multiple lightning guns instead. Luke shows up in the nick of time and takes down the men that were taking down Batwoman. In one fell swoop, Batwoman is saved, the CEO is sent to prison, and Spence gets his job back at the Gazette.

Before the episode’s end, Angelique finally comes clean about everything and is able to get a deal through Sophie. But she’s in grave danger while the Black Mask is out there, and with her now helping the investigation, it’s not going to go well for her if he ever finds her.

Of course, he finds her anyway after her escort is attacked and the False-Face gang kidnaps her. Not feeling so great about convincing her to help you, are you now Ryan?
