Ouroboros was an entertaining and well-acted episode that saw Bright ultimately end up on top as a hyped battle got cut short.

Synopsis: A world-famous profiler shows up in New York and claims that Maj. Crimes’ current case is connected to the discovery of Endicott’s body overseas; Martin gets to know Dr. Vivian Capshaw. (TV Guide)

The midseason finale of Prodigal Son set up Allan Cumming’s Simon Moxley as a potential thorn in the side of the Whitlys and as the season resumed with this this latest episode, this proved to be the case. Cumming was simply a delight here and looked to be having a blast while chewing plenty of scenery in creating a contentious and not to mention fun relationship with Bright. Unfortunately, the potential of this to go on appears to have been cut short with a case that essentially swept all the recent drama under the rug at least for now in a very convenient way. That being said, it does set up the potential of Moxley’s return and for all we know, the drama could remain. Meanwhile, Dr. Capshaw continues to assert her dominance over Martin in a relationship that could be more or it could just be a means to an end with her fully aware of what is going on and what she is doing, using that knowledge to their advantage. Michael Sheen and Catherine Zeta-Jones were superb once again which goes without saying.

As far as this episode was concerned, the case of the week didn’t matter as Ouroboros was all about Bright trying to stay ahead of Moxley who albeit was mostly just reputation at this point. Nonetheless, he still talked a big game and charmed everyone to his side. His interactions with Bright and the Whitly family as a whole seemed like trolling since his suspicions of his family were fairly evident. Anyways, a woman was found murdered on a yacht that was part of a courier network smuggling goods and other illicit contraband, including Endicott’s body which Moxley figured out he wasn’t killed overseas. It was also his own network. In order to protect himself and his family, Bright would need to go against his team.

The tension between Martin and Capshaw grew while the former got a hold of a pair of suture scissors. However. the latter was always on guard and skeptical of Martin real motives and rightfully so. When Moxley made a visit, things got especially intense as he went out of his way to trigger an emotional response. Martin was just trying to protect his family and just before he was about to act on that emotion, he was interrupted by Capshaw who stood up for him.

While tightening up loose ends amongst the courier group Bright used, it was clear that the last living member was the actual killer as she did so out of self-preservation. Therefore, her next target was Moxley but she didn’t make it after a struggle with Bright and got impaled for her trouble. In the end, she was set up to be Endicott’s killer and everyone seemed to be okay with it.

The episode ended with Capshaw in Martin’s room, looking for her missing scissors. He denied having them but she knew he did and eventually got them back, using his feelings for her to her advantage, Whether or not she had feelings for him wasn’t clear though it could go either way. It’s just nice to see someone stand up to Martin and who very well may be an intellectual equal.
