Bloodthirsty is an enjoyable horror film that delivers a fresh take on the werewolf subgenre thanks to strong writing and great music.

For whatever reason, there has been an abundance of recent werewolf films. A folklore creature that has been shown on the big screen over the years. Bloodthirsty takes the werewolf concept to new heights by bringing something new and refreshing to the genre. The story follows Grey (Beatty), an indie singer who is trying to find inspiration for her next musical album. While it didn’t necessarily have to be a werewolf film, it delivers a great take on the usual story. The script not only fits the character of Grey, but also fits the entire theme of the film with the strongest part being the character development of Grey. The contrast of her transition as a well known artist with that of becoming a werewolf made a great commentary on what is necessary to make it in the musical world.

Bloodthirsty saw tension builds quietly over the course of the film in a very grounded way. Although there were moments where the film’s lower budget showed, it did not take away from what the film was trying to do. While the film is beautifully shot, its characters were also memorable. Its use of music was also a high point and viewers should listen closely to the lyrics. Meanwhile, the film’s horror and horror-like elements rely more on the character’s personality and story. Its great use of gore and brutality never felt gratuitous and made sense with the story. Having characters that viewers can like and relate to allows them to feel scared for them.

In the end, Bloodthirsty is a thoroughly enjoyable experience that is highly worth checking out.
