Who would have guessed that bringing back the original Mighty Ducks in Fulton Reed (Elden Henson), Connie Moreau (Marguerite Moreau), Guy Germaine (Garette Ratliff Henson), Adam Banks (Vincent LaRusso), Lester Averman (Matt Doherty), and Ken Wu (Justin Wong) would result in the best episode of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers thus far? It was only inevitable that they’d show up on the series and this episode had a pretty good reason to do so as a special 25th anniversary gala of the Mighty Ducks was as good of a time as any for old school vs. new school. Nevertheless, Bombay’s contributions towards the Mighty Ducks were not going to be ignored whether he was invited or not.
In terms of this episode, the last one started with Evan getting a message from Coach T (Dylan Playfair) coach to meet him but all he wanted to do was to bring him back to the Ducks. Whether he actually believed in him or if he was just telling him what he wanted to hear to pull him away from the Don’t Bothers was unclear. Regardless, this was a dilemma. Despite obviously being a better situation overall, his relationship with his mother and his friends was still important to him and this episode made sure that he wouldn’t forget those and whatever decision he made, he would have to do it alone.
Getting revenge on Alex for beating her in the slapshot contest, Stephanie overworked her in preparation of the gala. The original ducks were excited to go. They were also thrilled to see their old coach. It was clear that a lot of time had passed as they fell out of touch as Bombay essentially fell off the map. The humble and proud Bombay, not wanting to reveal that he wasn’t invited, chose to brush them off instead which rubbed them the wrong way though it was clear to them that something was wrong. It wasn’t until Evan told them the truth that they made sure Bombay got the recognition he deserved, going back to get him and crashing the gala just in time to steal Coach T’s thunder while seeing Bombay happy was nice.
The original Ducks then attended a Don’t Bothers practice which gave the team some much wanted energy as all Alex and Bombay merely watched. Watching them all together seemed to trigger something within the latter who now wanted to be more involved as the new assistant coach of the Don’t Bothers which was a nice moment and payoff. Drama ended the episode as the rest of the team saw a video of Evan practicing with the Ducks who he refused to go back to. Regardless the team was still hurt and left him alone on the ice.
A little bit of good and a little bit of bad but all parties will surely reconcile. We don’t appreciate Emilio Estevez enough.
