Synopsis: When Sophie must face a foe from her rookie days with The Crows, Ryan, Mary and Luke are also pulled into the villain’s game; the tables turn on Alice when she finds herself in dire circumstances; Jacob continues to revisit the past. (TVGuide)

Batwoman immerses itself into the harsh realities of drug addiction as Jacob continues to take Snakebite and struggle as a result. He’s definitely been struggling in the wake of Kate’s “death”, and it’s taking him down a path that may be difficult to return from.

While there’s nothing wrong with this sort of arc for characters, they haven’t quite done it justice from the get-go. It feels rushed and therefore it feels like the character got cut short of the arc it could have had. In any case, Jacob is definitely in trouble by the end of this week’s episode, and it will be up to Mary  to help save his life. Black Mask and Batwoman are keen on finding another, and as a means to pull her in, he’s been keeping Alice hostage. He will do whatever it takes to find out Batwoman’s true identity–even if it means taking her life. However, Alice is always ten steps ahead of everyone else and finds a way to get out. She calls Jacob for help but he is keen-deep in Snakebite and his high leads him to refuse that it is actually Alice calling. And with that delay, Alice gets captured by Circe Sionis in the process.

After being captured again, Alice manages to find a way to get Circe to reveal who she actually is, and in the process learns that Black Mask is Circe’s father, Roman Sionis. Alice is also aware that Roman wants her to make a new face for Circe, but something feels off about the whole thing. And that’s probably because she knows the real Circe died in Arkham Asylum, and the picture given to her by Roman is someone with brown eyes, not blue eyes. It doesn’t take long for Alice to put two and two together and realize that Circe is not Circe, but Kate! That was a cool reveal.

Meanwhile, Batwoman inches closer to finding out Black Mask’s location but is apprehended by the C.R.O.W.S in the process. Of course, she manages to get away because these guys can never actually apprehend criminals.

A bit later in the episode, Ryan walks in on Mary and Sophie having dinner together, and the three end up playing a drinking game. The entire time Sophie is trying to get Ryan to reveal or admit that she is Batwoman. It’s so obvious she is trying to, but at first, Ryan doesn’t bit. During the part, Ryan finds a clue from Cluemaster (Rick Miller), whom Sophie had locked up some years back. He’s returned however and has left cryptic clues everywhere for people to find. All Cluemaster wants is to take revenge on Sophie for locking him up, and to retaliate for figuring out his clues way back when.

Back then, Sophie was given the answer to the clue that ultimately led to Cluemaster’s capture, and it turns out it was a young girl that helped him. In the present, the clue leads the three women to a glass box with that very same girl inside of it, Cluemaster’s daughter, Stephanie Brown (Morgan Kohan). For any DC Comics fans out there, Stephanie is known by the name Spoiler, and she was once Robin as well as Batgirl. That’s probably the coolest connection in a while! In any case, Sophie, Mary, and Ryan have to work together to solve Cluemaster’s clues if they intend on saving Stephanie’s life, as well as their own. They’ll have to solve a cipher so they bring Luke in to help out with it. There is a bit of a romance brewing between Luke and Stephanie as they nerd out together over deciphering the clues. I’m loving this for Luke!

The whole ordeal gets a bit all over the place as Stephanie knocks out Luke out after they figure out the cipher, and Ryan and Mary find themselves standing on a rigged stage that will blow up if they move.

This is where the episode takes a “turn”, and Sophie finally blurts out that she knows Ryan is Batwoman, and if they want to get out of this alive, she’s their only hope. Ryan succumbs and tells Sophie how to access the Batcave, and what to grab from there. Meanwhile, Stephanie follows her father’s clues which lead her to the home she grew up in. When she tells him that Sophie didn’t figure out the clue and that she’s essentially put him behind bars, he tries to kill her. Luke shows up in the nick of time, and saves the day, with Cluemaster getting arrested by the end of it all.

Sophie gets to join the Team Batwoman action through it all, and so I’m hoping that means that maybe she will get to be a part of the action from here on out. Here’s to hoping!
