Shout out to director Milo Ventimiglia for giving us one hell of an episode this week! He was behind the camera this time around and gave us an episode that many will be talking about for quite some time. In Jerry 2.0, Kevin and Madison have their bachelor and bachelorette parties with a side of cold feet.

We kick things off with a flashback to the 1990s where Kevin, Randall, Sophie (Amanda Leighton), Beth (Rachel Hilson), Kate, and Rebecca head to the cabin for the weekend. Things are tense between Kevin and Sophie who have had a long-distance relationship, and it could be something that happens again in the near future. Meanwhile, Beth and Randall are getting ready to have a long-distance relationship, but Kevin tells them there is nothing to worry about. Sophie isn’t too sure about that, so the two end up arguing over their future. Sophie storms out and the rest of the family gathers together to watch Jerry Maguire to defuse the awkwardness, which is Kevin’s favorite movie, by the way.

Feeling inspired from the movie, Kevin writes a mission statement just like Tom Cruise’s character and reads it to Sophie. All is well after that–yay!

In the present, the boys gather at the cabin for Kevin’s bachelor party, and it’s not off to the greatest start. A thunderstorm rains down on their plans so they stay in and watch, you guessed it, Jerry Maguire. After it’s over, Uncle Nicky compares Kevin to Jerry saying that just like the movie, Kevin is just marrying the girl because of circumstances. It clearly irks Kevin who is already confused about his upcoming nuptials after Sophie called to congratulate him the night before. After what Nicky had to say, the bachelor party gets super awkward and it seems like everyone is out of it.

Randall asks everyone to speak up about what’s going on with each of them, and it starts with Toby going off on a rant about his life. He’s not in the best place, but Randall assures him that it will be okay. Next, Uncle Nicky says he said what he did because of his own crappy love life. It’s Miguel who saves the night by sharing that he and Rebecca didn’t have the “written in the stars” love story, but instead, they had the type of story they wrote together. And if they can do that, so can Madison and Kevin. Miguel is the real MVP!

Meanwhile, back at the bachelorette party, Kate starts the fun and games starting with a “Paint and Prosecco” activity. Basically, a dude comes over and models in the nude while everyone paints a picture of him and drinks. Unfortunately, the dude who showed up was someone Madison dated who ghosted her. It leads to an interesting conversation in which Madison subtly talks about Kevin possibly marrying her because of their situation.

Later, they play a game where Kevin’s previously recorded responses to questions about Madison are played out. I have to admit he was pretty darn on point with the ones we heard, but there was something about the responses that had Madison contemplating at the end of the episode. And it also caused some concern for Kate who later asked Madison if she is happy with Kevin. As it turns out, she actually fell in love with the goofball!

As for whether or not Kevin and Madison’s wedding is actually going to happen in next week’s season 5 finale is yet to be seen, but it looks like it’s going to be an episode that we’ll not soon forget.
