The Good Doctor (4×20) Vamos Review

Synopsis: Dr. Shaun Murphy must perform a risky surgery on a patient without electricity when the power suddenly goes out at the hospital in Guatemala. Additionally, Dr. Lim and Dr. Mateo Rendón Osma’s relationship deepens as they overcome difficulties during their surgery. (IMDb)

Part two of the season finale time as the doctors completed their surgical mission in Guatemala and marking Browne and Antonia Thomas’ exit from the series after four seasons.

Vamos began right where the last episode left off as all the doctors were ready to go back to work in Guatemala. It was time to start performing some surgeries on their selected candidates. However, things got tough as the hospital lost power as doctors were left figuring out workarounds. The electricity came in and out, coming back soon after the initial loss. Meanwhile, Lim and Osma continued to be involved as their relationship evolved to more than a mere fling (the latter wasn’t as comfortable with it as she was but their issues affected their work until he became more open to it) while Andrews continued to flirt with Nurse Morales (Esmeralda Pimentel). As far as the latter was concerned, Andrews leaned on that relationship to help a boy with a facial tumor (while he admitted to trouble with his marriage). Saving that boy meant so much to him that he was willing to exchange his wedding ring for the materials needed to save him and that he did.

Browne’s patient’s surgery was far more complicated and labor-intensive as she realized amounting to something unlike she has ever done before but it would be up to her. She had to learn to be confident in herself and her ability as a surgeon. Desperate times called for desperate measures as Reznick was forced back into performing surgery as a dismissed patient came back with a life-threatening injury and needed surgery despite all the doctors being busy with their own cases. However, Park took over once he was done with his patient (her passion was still there). Post-surgery Reznick had a rare vulnerable moment which only brought the two closer together (Fiona Gubelmann was sensational here).

Looking for help with Lea from his usual source of Glassman, he was not forthcoming with much in the way of answers. It wasn’t a good time for Glassman but he noticed how Murphy was turning to him less and less and encouraged him to figure it out on his own as he proved more than capable. Meanwhile, Lea was continued to tend to a young mother who baby daughter had trouble breathing on its own. Once the baby was cured, Lea held her and it appeared to make a difference.

The exit for Browne was revealed when she was offered a job to stay in Guatemala to work at the hospital. It was an emotional goodbye, even for Murphy who hugged her for the first time. Things got better when Lea told him that she wasn’t going to go back to her parents and she vowed that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him and wanted to get married.

So that’s happening.
