For our review of the last episode of Loki, click here.
Loki has certainly turned things around quickly with one of the best episodes of any MCU series thus far (or at least the best written one) as the stakes could not have been higher with the recent revelations about the TVA and the Time Keepers threatening to bring it all down. However, no one would have guessed how things would actually gone down with one with Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Renslayer truly stepping up and becoming what we probably expected them to be all along while another saw an untimely fate but also knowing what we know now about variants and timelines, maybe that wasn’t quite the case, we can only hope. Meanwhile, Loki was coming to terms with his relationship with Sylvie and how weird it kind of is to anyone on the outside (falling for himself). And there’s a mid-credits scene so stay tuned (more on that later).
The Nexus Event started with an origin story of sorts for Sylvie that saw her being taken from Asgard as a young girl (Cailey Fleming) by a then hunter Renslayer as she was allegedly part of a nexus event. Once brought back to the TVA, she found a way to escape and began to live on the run with everything she did causing further nexus events until she figured out where to hide. Back in the present, the search for Loki and Sylvie continued.
Mobius was concerned with Hunter C-20 who was suddenly unavailable (Hunter B-15 as well). Still on Lamentis, Loki and Sylvie could do nothing but watch the planet getting destroyed around them. What they believed to be their inevitable demise prompted Sylvie to open up about her aforementioned past. Eventually catching wind of the nexus event they created, Loki and Sylvie were saved just in time to become prisoners of the TVA. Loki got put in an inventive time prison for his trouble, reliving a painful memory with Lady Sif (Jamie Alexander). No longer wanting to relive that memory, he decided to tell Mobius what he wanted to hear but he wasn’t buying it. However, the truth about the TVA looked to make a dent. Either way, Mobius could close his case. Meanwhile, Mobius was also not getting much in the way of answers from Renslayer while celebrating another closed case.
Mobius was forbidden to speak with Sylvie while B-15 looked for her own answers from Sylvie. As Sylvie controlled her body earlier, she was accessing her memories and showing her those memories was enough to convince her. Mobius was later convinced when Renslayer’s timepad showed that C-20 was well before she was unceremoniously eliminated. Freeing Loki, the two did not get very far with Mobius shockingly being pruned by Renslayer and capping off what was a great Owen Wilson episode (but is he really gone?).
From there, it was the moment of truth as Renslayer took Loki and Sylvie to meet the Time Keepers who talked a big talk but were exposed as mere androids thanks to the assist from B-15. Defeated, the two were given one last jolt when Loki was also surprisingly pruned by Renslayer as he was about to profess his love for Sylvie. As far as Sylvie was concerned, she was not done with Renslayer and wanted some answers.
The mid-credits scene saw Loki wake up in some other universe surrounded by other Loki variants (Richard E. Grant, Jack Veal, Deobia Oparei).
In the end, Renslayer is going to have a lot of explaining to do as the question of who is really in charge of the TVA will loom large over the final two episodes of the season. Hopefully those final two episodes can ride that wave.
