The Missing Piece delves deeper into Brother Day’s decision to take on the pilgrimage and follows him as he journeys into The Spiral, not knowing what will happen. It’s interesting for the audience because we have not seen him in a vulnerable situation until now. Many people who take the same pilgrimage in the past have died. Day also ignores Demerzel’s plea not to go through with it. He’s stubborn and focused but will that be enough to see him through to the end? During the pilgrimage, Brother Day comes across an intriguing older man who he joins upon the Spiral. This man somehow manages to have a profound impact on Brother Day. But will this change his view of the Luminists?
Meanwhile, the episode rejoin Phara and Hardin on the Invictus. Things are becoming dire, and the latter is at her wit’s end trying to find ways to get the upper hand on Phara. It turns out all she needs is a helping hand from an unknown source, just as the Invictus makes a hyperspace jump to an unknown location.
Dornick is also making headway, albeit slowly, which does nothing for her increasing impatience with Hari. Eventually, she leaves The Raven and embarks on a journey back to her home world of Synnax. She is unprepared for what this journey will reveal about her people and their fate.
In the end, the first season of Foundation is slowly beginning to wind down towards its conclusion. Hopefully, we won’t be left with a cliffhanger without an answer until the next season arrives. Some of our characters in this season are now beginning to come full circle in their respective journeys. Whether they end up better for it is still anyone’s guess.
The most fantastic aspect of the series thus far is how much has happened to our characters and how they’ve been transformed over the course of the season. Even Brother Day, the most powerful man in the Galaxy, can do nothing but yield to the passage of time.
