Ranking The Spider-Man Films Before No Way Home

The last big comic book book film of this year is upon us with Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film is one of the most hyped entries in the MCU since Avengers: Endgame and it needs to be great. Personally speaking, none of the films within the Spider-Man universe are bad. There are a lot of things to like and a lot of things to not like but none of them are bad.

As we get ready for Spider-Man: No Way Home, check out my ranking of all the films in the Spider-Man universe prior to No Way Home.

10. Spider-Man 3

Well this film was criticized heavily by critics as well as fans upon its release. Now the film isn’t that bad of a film, it is just inferior to the two previous films in the trilogy. It rather felt like a parody of the earlier ones. There are some pretty cool ideas here. Sandman was a great villain. But again, it had way too many villains lacking compelling motivations. Eddie Brock first plagiarized a picture from people and then got called out for it and because of that he went to a church , prayed to god about killing Peter Parker. Wow!

Secondly, Harry Osborne’s cliché friend v friend against Peter arc. Not every villain needs redemption. In the end, the film is still enjoyable for the most part and thanks to the internet and memes that have since them allowed it to stick with fans for quite some time since.

9. Venom : Let There Be Carnage

Now this film is actually quite close to the previous Venom in terms of its quality. A goofy, subjectively funny film for fans, it almost fulfills everything a basic comic book film nowadays needs and it’s enjoyable too. Tom Hardy is back with another pretty good performance. This film was supposed to adapt one of the cruelest comic book characters and it clearly fails at that. Well it’s a different version I guess and they can do anything with the character. The film had a post credit scene that made fans quite excited as it teased a Spider-Man and Venom crossover.

8. Venom

Well this particular film is actually funny and enjoyable. The filmmakers took Venom seriously and that’s why it worked so much better. It has a crazy story and actually boasts pretty good chemistry between Brock and Venom. It may not be much better than its successor but it is still better nonetheless.

7. The Amazing Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man is as great as it gets in live action. But the first film of his might not be.

The chemistry between his Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy works so much better than Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Mary Jane in the Raimi trilogy. The film does a great job at making audience care about characters though the Uncle Ben part of the film wasn’t as impactful as the previous ones.

That being said, the final battle with Lizard was exciting and overall it’s a very enjoyable and fun Spider-Man film.

6. Spider-Man: Far From Home

The MCU Spider-Man is far more controversial than the other two incarnations of the character and for good reasons. Far From Home is also a controversial Spider-Man film. I like it. It’s a different version of Spider-Man and it’s cool. Whether you like these or not, Tom Holland played his version of Peter Parker well. It has cool things to it and specially the hallway drone fight sequence was great but MJ in the MCU never really worked as a character.

5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Well there are tons of things in this one that people really love and/or really hate. But as far as Spider-Man goes, this is the best representation of Spider-Man in live action. The chemistry between Peter and Gwen is great. The villains are awesome. Jamie Foxx’s electro is just great.

4. Spider-Man

The original film creates by far the most realistic Peter Parker and this film is really cool for its time and even works now. Meanwhile, it also features an overwhelmingly great portrayal of Green Goblin, the best Uncle Ben and his moments are moving. It delivers a great starting point for the trilogy and has some really good action too.

3. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Well people were mixed over this reboot of Spider-Man before it was even released. But for a Spider-Man film in the MCU, it is a pretty good base for the character. It has all that MCU stuff and actually still feels new. Overall, a good way to introduce the character and it’s fun. Again it’s a pretty different version of the character but it’s quite well done.

2. Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse

Okay this one is literal art. For a animated comic book film, the art style is perfect. Why don’t they use this in more films? Apart from great visuals and action, the film has pretty good writing and very interesting characters. Also a great portrayal of Miles Morales. Nothing in this ever felt cliché. This is one of the best Spider-Man and animated films. All Spider-Men and Spider-Women were very interesting. This film definitely offers a lot of rewatachability.

1. Spider-Man 2

The way this film builds up from the first one and then just gives way more to the character of Peter Parker. We get the fantastic Dr Otto Octavius as the villain and even years later the action is great.

No Way Home includes all the previous villains from previous Spider-Man films and it has to be at least great to mean something more than just another MCU film. Well the hype is off charts and the film is releasing just tomorrow globally so let’s see where it ranks. Stay tuned for our review.
