Peacemaker (1×08) It’s Cow or Never Review

With the news that Peacemaker has been renewed for a second season, it does temper things a little going into this season finale. Though the renewal was inevitable, it does take some tension away. The announcement could have waited until people have seen the finale but nonetheless, this episode did deliver a satisfying and action-packed conclusion serving as a culmination of all that had happened up to this point with some surprises. More than just the spectacle, the series has been about character development and the writing and performances have gone a long way into creating those compelling arcs. Each task force member has had their chance to shine and this episode saw all of them shine. In the end, how its second season could possibly go remains to be seen. That being said, let’s just enjoy this episode for now.

In order to eliminate the cow and the butterfly threat, the team would have to work together but the latest rift between Peacemaker and Adebayo needed some mending. As far as the task force was concerned, they were on their own. Eagly wasn’t much help either. Meanwhile, when it seemed like Peacemaker had gotten over his father, his spirit continued to loom over him (as Robert Patrick embraced the campiness of it all).

It was up to Economos to go undercover and drop the sonic boom helmet in the barn. This was an adventure and one where he had to admit to dying his beard and the story behind it in what was an emotional scene as the other listened on a radio (kudos to Steve Agee). He even almost got away with it until the first sonic boom stop the butterflies from chasing him. After a few more sonic booms evened the playing field, the battle began and it was epic and violent. However, Harcourt and Vigilante can only do so much with the former taking the brunt of it therefore it was Adebayo’s time to shine and that she did, chasing after Peacemaker while armed with a human torpedo helmet.

Things appeared to have taken a turn as Goff tried to recruit Peacemaker to their cause, explaining that the butterflies merely meant to save the human race from themselves. Their mission shared similarities to that of Peacemaker as Goff saw the good in him. It was all for naught as he shot Goff/Song and Locke and launched Adebayo into the cow. He didn’t help the butterflies for what they were going to do to the others. Once the battle was over, the Justice League finally showed up in what was a callback to a line earlier in the episode and another from near the beginning of the season. Adebayo asked her mother to call them for help as Aquaman (Jason Momoa) was called out on the rumor, which really wasn’t one as confirmed by The Flash/Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), of his love of fish.

At the hospital, Peacemaker and Adebayo mended their differences as the latter went on a mission to do what was right, exposing Project Butterfly and Task Force X as her angry mother watched. While Economos was also done, Judomaster was glad it was all over and Harcourt showed some vulnerability as she continued to recover.

Finally at ease, Peacemaker just sat outside his trailer with Eagly, Goff who had returned, and his father all on the porch.

It will certainly be interesting to see how they top alien bugs.
